You should reserve one of the ribbons for Mr_Pants. A ribbon and a 5th place in two Expert Editing challenges.

Edgar Rice Burroughs is the authors name, not James.

This has the potential to be very very cheesy!

Don't blame Langdon -> Challenge Suggestion Thread

Perhaps she meant Leroy Rice Burroughs, Edgar's lesser known brother, author of Cheesemen of Mars ;)

It's OK, my space ship is square.

i'm assuming langdon means for the 720x720 and 200k to be upper limits and not requirements. can you imagine how hard it would be to get your image compressed to _exactly_ 200k?!? talk about scifi... yikes...

anyway... i think i'll just reenter this one since everyone said it had an old b-movie scifi feel to it...

My 720x540 wasn't accepted (and it's smaller than 200K)

Are you sure? Just got the error: Your photograph is 720x720, which does not meet the size requirements. (It's a 160Kb photo).

He probably just forgot to change the parameters so the program still thinks the limits are 640k and 150k respectively.

You may want to open a ticket to get it corrected as he may not see this thread.

oh.. cool :D

got the idea and the props, gonna shoot tomorrow :D

for me it could've been minimal editing rules, but I'll try and "do" something, haha!

Well, it's flagged as a special rule and it overrides the rules in the left panel. As it's posted, for sure the image MUST be 720x720 or it will be DQ'd... If that's not what he wants, he better change it, yup!

If the rule stands, there will be DQ's for images at 720x718 and 719x719 and, for that matter, anything smaller than max even if it is square...

The extra rules state that Expert Editing, 720x720, and 200k are allowed, however they are not mandatory. You may use Minimal or Basic Editing, and submit at any size at or above 160px, and any file size at or below 200k.

The extra rules say: "Extra Rules: Expert editing, 720x720, 200kb."

The "rules at a glance" say:

The following is a quick view of the challenge rules. These may be overriden if specified in the 'extra rules' section of the challenge.

# File Format: JPEG (.jpg)
# File Size: 200 kb or less.
# Dimension: No dimension may be shorter than 160 pixels or longer than 720 pixels.

This tells me that the entry must be 720x720, and if that's not the intention the wording needs to be changed to avoid confusion.

Then all wordings need to be changed since the regular one is like this:

# File Format: JPEG (.jpg)
# File Size: 150 kb or less.
# Dimension: No dimension may be shorter than 160 pixels or longer than 640 pixels.

The only substitution for this challenge is 200 replaces 150 and 720 replaces 640.

On THAT side the wording is fine; it's the "Special Rules" (by the yellow flag) that specify 720x720.

That's incorrect. It just can't be more than 720 on each side.

I'm glad this thread appeared in the forums -- I might not have been alerted to this challenge otherwise.

I love this site!

Error: Your photograph is 719x719, which does not meet the size requirements.

Ok, I'm in. Indeed, it's just the old rules. 150Kb and 640x640

Let's wait and hope they are adjusted.

Who does? But if they are very, very fresh and with a good bottle of cold white wine, who could resist?
