I'm creating this thread to encourage people to show, week after week, challenge after challenge, their preferences for different photos than the ones winning DPC ribbons. I think it's important to give some visibility to other works not aligned with the mainstream taste, and give support to photographers with different views and approaches to photography.

So, after each challenge, you are encouraged to post here your personal winners, photos that did not won a DPC ribbon and are not align with the masses taste, but won your heart instead.

That is what I did.

Backsides Challenge

I thought that this would do better than what it did but I had a good time shooting it and my dad was in town helping me so in my heart this is a winner reguardless of where it placed.

i thought this thread was about showing our favourite pictures from this week's challenges, not our own pics.
unless, your own picture is your top pick from the challenge of course ;)

The instructions listed were "So, after each challenge, you are encouraged to post here your personal winners, photos that did not won a DPC ribbon and are not align with the masses taste, but won your heart instead."

sorry for the misunderstanding. by "your winners," it means the photos you pick as the best, not your photos.

It's nice to know your own photo won your own heart. :-p
Just kidding -- please accept this gentle jibe in the spirit in which it was intended.

I mostly enjoy this thread when it pops up, but if you guys are going to argue why not argue about posting top ten (or top 20) finishers. Certainly those photos align with 'the masses taste', which is the oppossite of what the OP was trying to highlight here.

But whatever, here are the three that I enjoyed more than the rest

I skipped the backsides challenge, but just looking at the ones y'all picked out is inspiring! Those are beautiful shots and I can tell just from the thumbnails.

And not only that, check out the yellow ribbon for backsides! There is hope for this site after all!

Thank you kindly, good sir!

A lot of mine have been mentioned already - I'll just add my nods to nixter, jenesis, boysetsfire, and muur88 (how cool is that one, eh?)

And a couple more -

(OK, so more than a couple, but there were a lot of great, creative shots in the challenge!)

For candid...

It was shocking, it was emotive, it was disturbing

Yes there may be issues with the desat-ing of such an intimate shot but by heck perhaps more than any other image I have seen in a challenge it will stick with me
In many ways it would have been wrong that the impact of the image was diminshed by a ribbon this but in truth it was the most powerful shot in candid and I gave it 10

Just disappointed that njsabs2323 did not tell us more about the shot so perhaps after the challenge we could have understood more

Sorry I didn't explain this a bit more. This was at the Grande Floral Parade in Portland Oregon. This lady was yelling quite a few racist remarks to a large group of visitors. She was making quite a scene in front of her young son and the rest of us that were there. The police came and tried to calm her down but she just became more angry. The finally handcuffed her and took her away in the police car with her young son. It was really quite a sad scene. I don't know what happend to the young boy.

I just wanted to say thanks the the folks that mentioned my recent Transitions entry "dance is transitions" in this thread and those who left nice comments. Makes me a feel a little better about taking chances and it's very flattering.
