I just been voting for 'pure' (but not seen them all yet).

I have to say it's the worst collection of entries I have ever seen on this site and it was a big disappointment. I was fairly regular on this site a few years ago and used to find the it quite inspiring. Was this just a bad challenge or has the nature of the site changed? It seems some people will submit absolutely anything, even though they must know there is no chance of the photo doing well. Isn't this somewhat anti-social? It wastes everyone's time and takes away from the pleasure of the viewers and voters alike.

Pure means complete or undiluted/untainted/innocent. So why on earth are people posting examples of things that are not even close to pure (in any sense)? It seems that most entries were totally random images with a poor attempt at linking to the challenge theme with the image title, e.g. take a blurry photo with a cellphone of a dog walking and call it 'pure speed' or 'pure cat killer'. I gave 90% of entries 3 or less, and I was inflating the scores just to leave room for the truly awful at the bottom.

Regardless of whether a genuine attempt was made to answer the challenge, the technical qualities were poor in so many shots. Was I the only one thinking this? Around half the photos looked a photo taken by someone who has never touched a camera before.

A good entry is one that is a) aesthetically pleasing b) technically competent (in focus, correctly exposed, etc) and c) relevant to the challenge. Just occasionally, I was presented an image which met these criteria. It was like the parting of clouds on a stormy day. Thank you to those people!

Constructive comments welcome.

my score (5.3-ish) says that I fit neither of the 3 points you wrote down, but it IS!

people told me it IS good to look at, I know it IS technically competent, and it IS relevant to the challenge. But voters think it's not.

I think purity can mean 100.000 things for 100.000 people, and that makes it hard to judge.

I haven't checked the entries yet, but I will, and will check back here to see if you're right about this.

a) is of mild importance
b) as you describe it is of no importance
c) is somewhat important

but what I look for is that last bit, "the parting of clouds on a stormy day," and I do NOT mean a landscape photo.

there's no way I'm going to vote in the "Pure" challenge and wade through slick, sleek nothings.

Try "Candid." There's some great stuff in there.

Wow! Your first post! Your first thread! You've never entered a challenge and you begin by complaining!!!

Where's that forum for complaining about complaining? I'm headed there ASAP!

You forgot...

d) Creativity a.k.a. out of the box.

But you don't seem to value that and therefore probably wouldn't recognize it if it was in bed with you.

holy crap! who pissed in your cornflakes? Feel free to argue that 2 + 2 = 4 and such, but when it comes to subjective opinions on what you like and what you don't like you are coming across as a complete obnoxious rear -end.

You are entitled to your opinion, of course, but why do you feel it necessary to slam everyone? Are you the greatest photographer that has ever lived? Is your work praised by all and selling for $50,000 per print? I think you need to read some books on how to treat people!

Then you'll love this.

'i' is capitalized in English.

'Know it all' is hyphenated. See //en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Know-it-all

This post is not an attempt to bait anyone, so I'm not a troll either.

You may disagree with everything I wrote. That's fine. Attacking a poster is not, whether it's his first or fiftieth post.

Love to see what you got besides a $20k camera back. Put your money where your mouth is as they say.

P.S. Feel free to correct my grammar and spelling...
