ok just a quicky just trying to work out if a super zoom is worth it, i'm realy into landscapes anyway but so far am happy with 18mm not having used anything wider, is 10mm dramaticly different?

And just to tag this on, i've had focus issues with sigma lenses before, is this a real issue or was it just a bad copy (it was bought of ebay)

thanks rich

Really just look up the lens on here in the equipment section. I have 18mm, yet really long for more on occasion. I guess it all depends on whether or not the tools you have are meeting your needs.

The difference between 18mm and 10mm is huge. The question is whether you will use 10mm or not. What is the crop factor on a Sony? The higher it is, the more I think it would be worth it.

I have the SP 11-18mm Tamron... 11mm is a huge difference over 18mm. I use it more for fun wide angle stuff (close up big angle) than landscape. At 11mm shooting a landscape you will be so wide that you will lose (far away) a lot of the interesting parts of the shot.

10mm is very noticeably wider than 18mm. I've got the Sigma 10-20mm, and love playing around at 10mm.

Here's a example, which I think demonstrates the scope of 10mm.

agree. 10 on a crop is liek 15-16. My 17-40 on my 5d is like looking at another world that 17 on my 30d. honestly it seems liek a small number difference but it is suprising how much more it is.

Think of it in terms of percentages, not absolute numbers: the difference between 10mm and 20mm is 100%, the difference between 100mm and 110mm is 10%; the one is a huge difference, the other is a negligible difference.

Here's a handy comparison site: //www.tamron.com/lenses/learning_center/tools/focal-length-comparison.php

Somewhere inbetween. You probably had a bad copy, but this type of bad copy happens quite a lot (especially on Canon bodies). It is probabaly a quality control issue.

Surprised nobody has said it.

About 8mm.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Thank you, thank you. No applause, just throw money.
