Hey Guys!

I am thinking about getting a new lens but wanted to check in with the DPC cool cats to see:

1. In your arsenal of lenses, which is your favorite & why?
2. Which do you use the most?
3. Show us your best shot taken with your fave lens.

Thanks in advance guys!
p.s. Not looking to drop major dollors or anything but am looking for a lens I can use A LOT & is nice & sharp!

My favorite lens that I currently own is the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro but my favorite lens of all, which I have rented about 5 times, is the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM.

Id suggest these:

macro

wide

wide-tele

zoom

I am just now upgrading to L lenses and love them to death so far. I have the 17-40 2.8L, kind of wish I went with the 16-35II.

True. Just thought it would be nice to see your examples. :)

Yeah, the Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS USM is probably my favorite lens. This lens is relatively expensive but I'm thinking the f/4 version probably wouldn't be & it would be just fine for most of what I shoot.

Here are some of my shots from it:

My current favorite lens is the EF 85mm f/1.8 USM

Heres some samples.

I'm liking the 70-200 lens A LOT! But it's SO EXPENSIVE! Gonna have to sell a limb to afford it!

Taken with the 85mm F/1.8

My other favorite is the Tamron 28-75mm

In fact I like it so much I bought the wife one. So now we have two.

I really like this lens too. The only thing I don't like about it is that the zoom is not internal like the Canon version. But then again it does cost hundreds less.

There is no 17-40 2.8L... only 4.0L

1. Canon EF 70-200mm L f/2.8 USM
It's fast and true, has exceptional optics for a zoom, can be used for much general photography, for portraits (fantastic boquet), candids, even landscapes and some wildlife capably with extenders 1.4x or 2x without sacrificing auto-focus.

2. I use the above the most (with the 30D) followed by the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0L IS (with the 1Ds Mk II).

3. Here are a few shots with it (I don't know which one's best):

I also own the much esteemed EF 50mm f/1.8, which is, of course, a great bargain for both optics and speed but mostly low-light indoors and in environments suitable to this focal lens (city shots, some portraits). Since I do not like changing lenses much, it gets used less than anything else I have.

The 17-40mm L, which is very wide on a FF, has become something of a back-up for the 24-105mm f/4.0L IS.

I do like the Canon EF 70-200mm L f2.8 USM IS which I used to take this , and also like the G5 which I used to take this , or the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM which I used to take this .

Having said that, the lenses I probably use the most are the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM.

Oops you are correct, 4.0L, I am addicted to 2.8 lenses now.

I did buy a new 85mm 1.8 today and I totally dig it. Love the 70-200 2.8 but it gets real heavy.

Next lens: EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM

Great tips guys. I'm torn between the 7-200 & the 100-400 in the L series.

I want to be able to use it take landscapes as well as portraitsm, the latter of which I do more often.

Any last bids for one of the above lenses before I make the dive?

I already have a lens of this range. Want something with a bit more that I can keep on for a range of shots.

I have the 70-200 f/4L which I love, love love for portraits. If you are going to spend the extra $$$ on the 2.8L, you won't be disappointed.

All these are with the f/4L

WOW dsa! Those are amazing. I am sitting on the but page right now. Just looking into the 100-400 range & check in the lenses I already have.

I have an IS 75-300mm lens that's pretty good. wondering if I should go for the 100-400 one instead. dunno! It;s a lot of money to regret spending!

UPDATE: Okay, I bit the bullet and bought the 70-200 f/4L lens. Way cheaper than the 2.8 but still a nice buy. Get it on Thursday. Cant wait to take some shots with it!

Will post back when I do!
