I'm less happy with my shot, especially after viewing it on my low rez monitor, here at work. I didn't have much sharpness to spare and it looks a dash softer, right now. Probably should have sat this one out.

I wish the challenge could have been held out an extra week just to give YOU the opportunity to find the magic that you seem to do. I love your candid work Steve.

I wish this Challenge had a "special" one week extension for ALL of our benefit.

I'm not that impressed with the images in general, though I think there are a few good ones. Even the best of the best Candid shooters might come up with nothing in a weeks time...not due to lack of talent but for that extra little bit of luck. The would up the percentage of shots that are even worth looking at by a large margin... and more fun to vote on, as well.

It intersting that the best Candid and Street shooters here on DPC, that serve up some magical images, don't do that well in those Challenges. Does that make any sense?

I think it would be nice to let them work their stuff AND then you'd have a real Challenge.

So far the entries are looking pretty grim - I see portraits and sports action shots - I thought maybe something ought to be happening in a good candid picture. Obviously I'm wrong - I regret entering.
Edited to compliment the poster above for being a bit nicer about it :)

in all my time at dpc this is what i noticed morning voters tend to take your score down, afternoon voters tend to take it up.
i think they should ban morning voting:)

Hear, hear. It's like waking up to a death sentence. Coffee is just not strong enough for this.

Been skimming through the images - not voting yet. I'll make breakfast, fetch a cuppa and sit down to vote. There are some really great images with good processing on them. I think if it looks posed that's where I'll mark down, and if it looks natural it will score higher - well that's how I'm going to vote. I had a pocket full of fun shots for this one and struggled to make a choice: one went in to the "Transitions" challenge and one went in to this challenge... swapped out a really great portrait because it felt too posed to me (even though it wasn't) - so I'll be tough on any that look like posed portraits I guess.

You have the right to vote the way you want but I challenge you to comment on all that you mark down because you think they are posed. Can you do that? You may find yourself debating your own judgment of whether it is posed or not.

I would request that also from those who think they are posed, but we know it won't happen. It's easier to assume guilt and vote low and move on. What a shame that a photographer can adhere to the spirit of the challenge and get voted low for it.

Edit: Just read Brad's post above, and scoring-wise he's probably correct. A staged photo that looks candid will score better than a candid that looks staged. I could have easily done a staged photo that looked candid but decided to keep with the spirit of the challenge and enter a true candid. Oh well.

Guilty without opportunity to prove innocence. I guess it is just easier to believe everyone is a "cheater" and vote down. You that do, it is very sad indeed. Not only do you miss the beauty of the shot you also miss a chance to have a positive experience while voting. :-/

Someone sure likes looking at your image, even if they aren't voting it very highly...

Hmmm....

Apparently there is some concern about my shot being staged. Unreal. My shot was taken from my car with the passenger side window rolled down, paprazzi style. Then paparazzi style, I almost got punched in the nose before speeding away.

Grrrrrrr.

I haven't seen your photo - but I am quite sure that you staged it. I think all the photos were staged in the challenge- the photographer willingly and with premeditation hit the button to take the picture.
