OK Judi... I said I would do it and I have

Candid Challenge

You have rated 444 of 448 images (99%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 444 images (99%) in this challenge.

(the exceptions are my DPL teammates images and my own shot)

Have to say it has been a real hard slog, I guess my problems have been that I seem incapable of leaving a short comment. After I finished I did a brief sample of my responses and found that the aevrage size was 38 words, which when multiplied by 444 images means a grand total of 16,872 words....Bigger than the dissertation I did when I took my MSc!!!!

Equally it has been very hard trying not to come up with the same old phrases each comment, every picture is different so my view was every comment should be as well

Finally the time required (a real big chunk of my free time since voting) started means it is impractical - unless I really learn to condense - that I could do this on other than an occasional basis

On the positive though I feel/hope that by doing this I have added a little bit of value to what I think is a great community at DPC. It also meant I had to really study every picture, I do try to do this every time I vote but I think almost ineviatbly you can get a bit trigger happy at times

Ultimately I would recommend that everyone on site did the 100% challenge at least once, its an experience and as I said before not everyone can win a challenge ribbon but there is no reason why anyone shouldnt be able to proudly display the 100% club ribbons

Finally I just wanted to say thank you to you Judi. This is certainly your baby and without the challenge being set I know there is NO WAY that I would have committed in this way. Good job!!!!

YAY!!! Your first ribbon. Congrats Jon. You took on a HUGE challenge and you learnt from it. And many others would have to, no doubt. It is a difficult challenge to do....and keep a clear head...but you certainly start to appreciate the images. Knowing the time that you spent on the comments...and in reverse the time the people spent on the images. I am pleased you did it Jon...and look forward to giving you more ribbons in the future. I hope others take a leaf out of your book and follow the same path.

So with that being said, here is your ribbon. Just choose which one from below and make sure, that if you choose the sparkly one you use the quoted text from this post to put it on your portfolio page. DO NOT put it in as a thumb or it will be distorted when you view it.

If you are clever you can even link each one of them to each challenge result.

CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN JON!!

I look forward to giving you many more ribbons.

My goal for the last week was to comment on all of the photos in the Candid challenge. I am living in a tent somewhere in backwoods eastern Europe and I have nothing better to do. I broke it up into sections I would do 50 to 100 photos at a time. At about 10:30 last night My internet went down. :P I had commented on 400+ when it happened. Needless to say, I am not too happy with the locals that are providing the internet here, but I guess I cannot complain too much. I am living in a tent and I have internet "MOST" of the time.

Joshua...did you manage to finish the challenge?
06/18/2007 05:05:17 PM · #56
I'm about 60% of the way through "pure" ... hope I can find time to finish before tomorrow night ...

Awwww....you were so close. I tell you what...why don't you try for the Backside challenge. There are so many low scores in there...I am sure it would cheer so many members up just to get a comment...and there are less entries in there then there was in the Candid challenge.

To the best of my knowledge, we have no way of doing this. I think it would take langdon working his magic on the database. The only way I can find it with me is to click on the challenge results for whichever challenge I'm looking for and scrolling through to see if I commented on all of them.

Maybe this is an area that can be discussed as an improvement to the site. So when someone completes the challenge by commenting on 100% their name suddenly makes a special list or something. A little bit of a reward for their work. Maybe a commenters list on the front page or on the challenge result page...!

I'm one of those with an unusually low score ... and would love to know why ...

Hey, I just made my 2500th helpful comment! :-P
06/18/2007 06:48:33 PM · #67
Going through my comments made and realized I also voted 100% on the insects challenge, but did not announce it in the forums. I did say in the results thread that I was working my way through them and hoping to comment on them all (which I did).

Judi,

I vowed a 100% comment on one of the challenges this week and have kept my word. Here are my stats on the Pure challenge.

Stats: You have rated 385 of 387 images (99%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 386 images (100%) in this challenge.

It was tough, but commenting actually made me see more things that some of the photos had to offer, both good and bad. I think it gave me more insite to what the photographer was trying to do.

Rich.

YAY!!! Your first ribbon. Congrats Rich. I am so pleased you took on this huge challenge...and you made it to the end. And you also admit to gaining more insite from doing so. I only wish more people would try this too.

CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN RICH!!

So what kind of comments do you leave at 100% comments? Just "nice photo" for most of them???
06/19/2007 10:17:19 AM · #75
Neither Judi or Pamelasue left a "nice photo" comment on my photo. Each took the time to look at the photo and offer constructive criticism. They are not long comments, but well thought out and gratefully received.
