Looks like the Rebel (hopefully on an after-Christmas sale!) and some lenses.
...and lots of reading to figure out how to use it all! :-)

Good goals ButterflySis!
I made a decision about a month ago to spend at least an hour a day on photography- be it reading a book, setting up and doing a photo session, or learning how to do certain things in Photoshop (which I consider an integral part of digital photography). Some days I don't get anything done, other days I spend 6 hours working on a project. I suppose it all evens out :-)
With any luck my work is starting to reflect my effort. I update my photography website and my personal website almost weekly, and the folks that I show the sites to seem to be impressed. Either that or just annoyed by all the emails I send them telling them I've updated my sites :D

1) Learning to compose better
2) Learning to see photograph opportunities (not the "I want to take a snap of that situation", no more like, "that tree has an interesting texture, those lines make a really interesting composition, etc")
3) That means: get out more with the camera (and combine that with cycling, motorcycle riding -or was that road racing-, etc, etc)
4) Get a small 2mp carry everywhere manual camera
5) Get some good lenses and a dSLR body and learn how to use it
For 2004 I already agreed to again shoot for the local history society and their yearbook (events, people, historic sites and objects. 2003 was 8 photos published, for 2004 I already have been asked for 5, 4 are in the pipeline) and to scan and edit their photos and negatives. Last year I only had to deliver, this year I will also edit them (including to all the specs required by the publisher).
I would also like to get more photos in hardcover books (2003= 1 book app 10 photos, one on the front), newspapers (2 papers, 2 photos each) and one local magazine (one edition, three photos). I enjoyed the photojournalistic aspect of this (grab your camera, we want a photo of this!). But I want to be able to give better quality, and to shoot faster -less AF & shutter lag, brighter viewfinder- with more dof control for portraits, hence the dSLR.

Mine's fairly simple -
1) Start putting more weight into my photography and actually earning some cash out of my expensive hobby.
2) Entering more challenges here!

my photography resolution is to give up on digital photography... its too plastic.. i would much rather be in a darkroom with the chemicals and the low lights.. to take shorter rolls and more of them.. to make large prints. I keep hearing about people rediscovering photography with digital cameras... i eventually hope to do the opposite. digital photography just doesn't rub me the right way. |

Continue my new Dpc life: Submitting to just a few challenges - just the challenges that I find interesting and where I get an idea right from the start. Stop submitting just for the sake of submitting.

i'm here because i neither have the resources to operate a darkroom, nor do i have a camera. i don't really have anything against digital photography beyond how easy it is to manipulate a shot into being something its not. i think many would agree with me.. don't get me wrong, i'm also here because i enjoy photography.. i would just prefer.... less digital, more analog.. |

I've been thinking about a New Year's Resolution in general, but I simply can't come up with any way I could possibly improve upon myself. ;)

I am going to try hard to have half of my submissions for 2004 over the 6.0 mark. I will also try to have a top 10 finish for 2004.
And I faithfully pledge not to submit any kityy, kid or flower shots (unless I'm reeeeeally stuck for ideas) :P

To learn everything about Photoshop just in case the current rule set remains.
On a more serious note, I will probably work on studio shots. I currently have no studio, nor do I have any equipment to take studio shots with. It would be nice to have something so that I can take some shots no matter what the weather and get good results.
I may also make a third resolution to take more pictures that are simply very good-looking and do not meet challenges -- as they seemed to actually score quite well. Actually that's a lie, as I don't think that will ever pander to the tastes of the people on DPC -- I would rather simply submit pictures that I like and see what people think of them.
In fact scratched the rest, my New Year's photo resolution is to do exactly what I'm doing at the moment -- find a challenge that I like, take a picture for it, and see what people think of the end result. If that doesn't work then so be it, if it does then yipee. |

To be more literal and precise in my interpretation of the challenge (or thread) title, therefore my actual answer is:
300 ppi |

My photo resolution for 2004:
I will spend the entire year working on areas of photography where I am very weak... namely people photos. I will complete the two year long projects that I have formulated. In order to accomplish these, I will avoid submitting to challenges for the duration of 2004. :)
