I'm ready to pick up the brushes again. I don't have a studio, so I'm planning to paint from photos for now.

The problem is that I paint much better than I photograph, and none of my own images meet the criteria for what I want to do.

I'm leaning towards tasteful nudes, macros of nature and perhaps dramatic landscapes. They won't be photo-realism, but may be recognizable enough to bring up coypright issues.

My question to the photographers of DPC is: Who would consider granting written permission to have a selection of their work used as a reference for a painting?

If I get any takers, I'll review the portfolios and request permission for the specific image before I start. If you are open to this idea, please post in this thread or send me a PM.

Thanks!
Roxanne

This is so exciting!

So many great images to choose from! I'm going to start with things that will appeal to the locals here in Florida, and then branch out from there.

Thanks to all who have offered. Now I'm off to scour portfolios and try to narrow it down to one to start with.

Hi Roxanne,
Can't supply any tasteful nudes, or actually any nudes for that matter, but you have my permission to use anything you find in my portfolio. There are 800+ images in there, so if you can't find something, fake it. (I need to find some nekkid women one day)

;)

Same here. Not sure that you'll find any good landscapes, and no nudes. . . but feel free to scavenge around. :)

I don't know if I have anything which will appeal to Floridians, but you're welcome to check.

I've seen the result of this kind of work before, and it's really cool; I'd love to see the painting and photo posted side by side when you're done.

Sure, greatandsmall. I've got some nature stuff on line. Help yourself.

You should have quite a selection by now. Hope you show us the results one of these days.

Hi, greatandsmall,
Lots of mediocre Florida nature pics in my portfolio, and you are welcome to use any of them for refrence. If you see something you like, you can PM me and I can email it to you larger.

greatandsmall feel free to look through my profile, not much there, but your welcome to paint any of mine.

I tend to photograph landscapes a bit painterly. Feel free to look through and see if any inspire you! I would easily give permission on the stipulation that I can get some sort of 10x15 copy (e.g., photo of the painting). Personally, I think one of these would make nice paintings:

I think you should ask if anyone objects to you using their photos. Most everyone on here would probably be excited to see their shots as paintings.

Some I would love to see painted of mine:

If you can find any of mine you think may be suitable, feel free, although it seems you have some much better offers on the table already :)

Wow! This is such a great response. This morning I was starving for inspiration and now I'm overwhelmed!

Thanks again to everyone who has offered, and everyone who will. It may take some time, but I intend to look at all of your portfolios.

You may be right MrEd, but I'm such a toe-stepper that I'd probably find the one person who objects.

nshapiro, those are just the type of landscapes that I would love to paint; and there are many more in the portfolios of those who have offered. Since I'm a little rusty, I am going to start with some simple and elegant macros and work my way into more complicated imagery. "Bass Harbor Light" is a perfect challenge, once I get back into practice. If I get into the landscapes I'll be ordering prints for a better look at the detail.

Of course I'll share images of the paintings; and will provide high-res copies to anyone who is interested.

Sounds like you have plenty already :-) but feel free to give my port a browse if you're still looking. I would be honored if you found something you liked :-)
