I have posted some of my photos into my portfolio (still havent figered out how to submit them for a challenge, or if im even ready for that stage yet).
I was wondering if you could take a look at thgem and let me know how a newbe is doing
any tips and susgestions will be greatly appraciated.
keeping in mind that i have only been taking photographs serisoly for a few weeks and have been using photoshop even less.

Welcome to the addiction. I think you have some nice photos for just a few weeks into photography! Keep shooting away and do alot of research on the internet to learn more. It's a constant learning game, especially in the PS side of digital photography. Best of luck to you and I look forward to seeing more of your work!

Pretty cool thus far.
A few notes...
1) Get the 640px on the longest side resize down before entering into the challenges. The first couple that looked at were smaller than a 640px and some detail was lost (I like the composition of the boat/building).
Voters here eat up those who enter "smaller in size" photos...
2) No Ducks...
3) Did I mention No Ducks... Just kidding we can never have enough duck shots.

When looking in your portfolio folder the first three entries I see are the most 'DPCish'. All three are nice compositions but look a little flat contrast and texture wise.
You've been here long enough to see that the top finishers generally are post processed to add artistic flavor to the compositions. You will want to study them, find out how that is done and try to emulate it in your own comnpositions if you want higher scores. I'm sure other folks will have a divergent opnion from mine. ;)
I recommend that approach because it will teach you the skills you need to develope your own personal style.
Noticed that you have borders on your portfolio images. Generally I would not recommend doing that because they take up too much space on images with limted image sizes and you later might decide you don't like it. Borders can always be added for special purpose outputs like DPC submissions, etc. Take that with a grain of salt though, I rarely include borders in my compositions. For printing I use mattes for the border.

I just been looking at your portfolio, some good shots there for a beginner, I notice you have signed some of them, so be aware, that any wrighting on a challenge entry will be DQd. the way forward is to enter a challenge, see how it scores, and what comments you get, then look at ways to do it better, good luck, and I hope you do well.
