We always want to know who the BLUE ribbons winners are and worship the red carpet they walk on...and wish their steps were our own. Well, as the day approaches for my coronation into the Realm of Brown (Desat Challenge...YIKES!), inquiring minds want to know...do you have a Brown Ribbon and what is your story behind it?

If you have won a Brown Ribbon (meaning your photo came in dead last or close to it), I invite you to post your Browns and your stories here...and a toast from the bottom of the barrel and a glass of dregs on me!!!

On the day of my coronation, I will post my own award winning Brown entry.

(PS...Heads of State from the Realm of Blue...I know you are shy...so you need not apply).

My fellow crown bearers...are you out there?!!!

Only three Brown ribbon scores are higher than mine:
1. From the Master's Free Study 2004, 5.6310, 69 entries
2. From the April Fool's challenge 2007, 5.5703, 7 entries
3. From the Impressionism challenge, 2004, 5.0700, 39 entries

Mine, DPL Album Cover, 4.5072, 148 entries.

If only I'd taken time to reread the description where it said text was allowed, I could have put some interesting stuff in there...

So, running all week at 4.5 or just below, I wasn't expecting it to finish last.

This is just the latest in what seems like a vast collection ...

Of course, in a way, it got its own form of blue ribbon as well ...

I expected just about the result I got -- I knew I was depicting a little-known aspect of Mr. Geisel's ("Dr. Seuss") life and work, which would not blend well with the expected interpretations of his children's books.

If you check all the comments though, it's interesting to see how some poeple recognized it, a few didn't, and a couple actually researched what it was about before coming back to vote! Amazing what happens when you contemplate before voting ...

For anyone who wants to know more of the background on Mr. Geisel, there are a couple of links in the additional info area of the photo.

::As the Crown of Brown Heads of State arrive...graciously offers each one a stale cracker topped with a slight bit of cheesewiz...Of course, in the Realm of Brown there are no chairs...so I hope you all brought floor pillows?::

Thank you all so much! The humor alone was worth a million Blues.

BROWN Teddy Bear hugs for all my fellow crown bearers!!!

This was my submission for "Image Grain" that landed me in the bottom with a whopping 8%. I obviously did not meet the challenge, and I misnamed the bird. I cringe when I look at it, but this image deserved the dreaded "Brown Ribbon" award. After this, there was no place to go, but up. Ha Ha!

My one and only...and I wasn't trying...does that make it better or worse?

For album cover, a square crop would have helped, too -- I noticed most of the rectangular photos ended up at the bottom of the pack. :-/

I added one. These were my bottom two.

While it did not win the brown, this photo came in 90 out of 95. It was my very first challenge, I have learned to read the descriptions since then.

Nice to see someone take a negative and try to have some fun with it. No doubt you have plenty of company for commiseration. We all need our oasis in the desert. I know I do. ;)

No doubt, you and Ansel Adams have found the same Oasis?

Well, I guess I earned this one by not "meeting challenge". It was just one of those days where you get all excited about posting a picture (whether or not it matches the challenge requirements) and you submit it anyways!! :-X
