Hmmm, what happened? People here are a great bunch, don't let a few rotten apples spoil your first challenge.

If you mean being asked for validation, it is no big deal. I have been asked many times. most people get asked at one time or another. just submit proof and forget about it.

Well, if you followed the rules, send the original file and forget about it. Validation is part of the game. I don't see why being asked to validate an entry is such a big deal.

Contests are run on the honour system. However, that leaves the door open for those who try to sneak things through. In order to curb this activity a process is in place to validate images that voters feel may have pushed the limit a bit too far.

It's not a threat just a request for validation. Just submit your original and be done with it. Be proud that you were able to do something within the ruleset that someone felt was outside.

;o)

You shoud not look at this as a threat, rather complement!

You're right, a majority of people here are great, a few always seem to have to throw out a sarcastic remark or a belittling comment in almost every thing they do. It is too bad that those who are not here to improve or help improve others can't just go away instead of putting others down with childish remarks. I also a agree that anytime someone requests a DQ review the accused has a right to know who their accuser is. BUT unfortuately too many of the minority want to cause problems and hurt feeling without being questioned themself. Maybe some day the right of those accused to respond to the one accusing will come about but I doubt it. Chin up, there are a lot of good people but the few make it difficult if they don't agree with you. Good luck ;)

Talk to us Sue. Did you get a validation request on an image?
That is a compliment in many ways.

ps - just read your Bio - I'm truly sorry to hear that.

I've been asked for validation several times, and never had a problem.

There may be a silver lining, too: after the "This picture has been validated" message goes up, I've noticed my scores always seem to go up ... its like the voters think it was validated as a "good" image!

Just like in the personal statistic list where average vote received, given, number of entries etc; a line showing how many times a person requested a DQ review would be interesting. That would be a shocker for some. Heck if you feel strong enought to request a DQ review, why hide the fact that you care enough about fellow entries that you want to help them and other with a review.

Oh ya ... Toohip, you need to go relax, this is supposed to be fun and not always a conflict with everyone

If you were asked for validation...don't fret! I was asked on my 3rd challenge entry. It's no big deal...it helps keep the cheaters on the straight and narrow.

I hope you don't take it personally.

A validation request or even a disqualification does not mean that someone cheated.

First and foremost, my sincere condolences on your tragic loss.

I do believe you will find this site is significantly more than simply photography, as this is truly an extended family for many. There are countless examples of truly altruistic behavior by DPC members that occur on a regular basis.

If indeed your concern is with a validation request, I only wish I had produced an image that the SC honestly believed was the result of unauthorized manipulation, but alas I have yet to be blessed with such a request.

DO have a great day.

Let me rephrase...validation is there to encourage people to follow the rules in the spirit of the games. Think of it this way...they do it in every sport these days!

Sue,

Please don't give up.
As some have said, it's actually a compliment, it's just worded very strictly. The first time I got one I nearly fell over with fright ;-)

All the very best,
Irene

you know how when you're driving along, usually in the evening on a weekend, and you come across a police roadblock checking for drunk drivers, and you start to get nervous even though you (hopefully) haven't been drinking?

it's sort of like that - you get nervous, but then realize it's actually for everyone's benefit, then bang, you're on your merry way.

except I trust the SC's judgement...
05/21/2007 02:05:54 PM · #22
thank you all - it's just too much that anyone would think I'd cheat particularly given the subject of the photo......that you've all been so kind makes me feel there is some point in continuing.

It wouldn't be so bad if the photo was any good in the first place!!!

05/21/2007 02:07:28 PM · #23
Dont let it get to you Sue, take pictures for yourself.
05/21/2007 02:08:07 PM · #24
FWIW, I didn't see a single image that even remotely looked like it broke any editing rules.

As everyone has said already, we have all had validation requests at one time or another and if you haven't had one, you will sooner or later.

It's no big deal really.

That usually means that your photo is so good that we don't believe you.
