I might post a review up on my main site when i get it backup. But ive done low light full motion tests.

The A630:
- Does better in low light... remarkable compared.
- Better white balance (manual)
- Much better motion (DV Cam's show interlacing, this does not)

The JVC MiniDV Video Camera:
- 1 Hour Capacity rules....
- 32x Optical Zoom Rules...
- F/2.0 Aperture provides shallower DOF
- Stereo Sound

Conclusion
The A630 has less noise, better quality in motion due to its choice of codec. The overall quality surpasses any 640x480 under 300 dollar Digital8/MiniDV camcorder ive used.

But as with all pocket cam's and point and shoots the SD storage has its limitations.

Its funny how a 200 dollar camera out does a 280 dollar video camera thats not much older then it. Ive been looking at DPReview's reviews and noticed this alot. Ive even seen 1 P&S that shoots 1024x768 which is above tv resolution in better quality then my DV cam.

Explain why for the past 10 years the low end video 640x480 and or 720x480 camcorders have not changed that much? Ive seen alot better DVCam's but they cost more lol. Id at least expect it to outdo a Point and shoot.

Just did another test in a tv lit room all lights out.

The MiniDV camera fails to produce fluid motion. While the A630 produces fluid motion.

Not to mention it produces half the noise in a dark room then my Olympus P&S did in most light lol.

My son has a MinDv video camera and it does produce good quality movies, however since I have bought my Panasonice Lumix-fx01 I have been taking a lot of movies of my grandchildren with it and it is very impressive. Trouble is now I have about 2 gig of movies on my hard drive!

Heh MiniDV/DV videos straight from the camera @ 25mbps are 13GB per hour. Most people save them as MPEG2 after editing i dont.

what are the frames per second for the a630? and the shutter speed?

if they are smaller then 24fps, then its crappy. Or if the shutter speed is faster then 1/50th, then it might look jittery.

The shutter stays wide open during video.

640x480 @ 30 FPS.

My SD400 did pretty nice videos, but there was no way to zoom while recording, or adjust the focus, and it was hard to hold that little thing steady.

The Canon S3 IS shoots 640 x 480 x 30fps with (stereo?) sound and can zoom during recording; I think there's a size limit of 8 minutes for any single clip. It can also record at 320 x 240 x 60fps for a slow-motion effect.

A630/A640 limits to 1GB or 1 Hour whichever comes first.
