I don't know what to say. Yeah, the guy\girl is extremely talented, but I think this kind of editing goes against my "religion"....
This is the world we live in - a world where they advertise a new camera for its "make you look thinner" feature.
Weird...

I don't agree with the 'social ramifications' of this type of thing (blah, blah, blah), but hell...I wanna be able to do that! |

That is cool but I'll tell you something...the original...original photo was actually of me...which makes it even cooler

I think this is just a way to show his talent -- I seriously doubt the guy would be intentionally shooting larger models just to PS them thin when it would be much easier to shoot a thin model in the first place if that was what you needed for a specific image. Again, I think this was just a dramatic display to show his/her abilities.

Wonder if I can use that as a marketing ploy. Tell people my camera can do that too! lol

I am guilty of a similar thing, on a smaller scale. I feel dirty thinning people. |

Think about it this way.
In some 'not so advanced cultures', you could be considered a God.

I'm so glad you posted this. I am graduating and one of my shots for my final portfolio I was told to do some of this on. not to that extreme, but I had to push in pockets and arms, and fix the folds of armpits.
I hated doing it, I think I'm against doing it, but I'm learning to shut up if I want to graduate.
I still don't like how that thought makes me feel though.

All I know is you can take very normal and turn it in to extraordinary with very little effort. It opens up the world to you for models. You need a breathing body to pose for you, and the rest is up to you. It is sort of like painting a person in an artistic way. It is kind of weird for sure...
With that said, it is so much fun to do! I love making people un-naturally pretty. I just feel dirty. |

When I do this type of editing (granted no where near that extreme) more often than not its on my own portraits. Women are very self-critical. ;)
Seriously though, I think its easier for women to photograph another woman and fairly generously edit because we know how we would like if it was ouselves. I don't feel bad when I remove that little bit of fat under a lady's arm or minimize that double chin for a more elegant look. I know the clients appreciate it.

I did this one,
And she complained that I didn't do enough! It was weird. Now she wants to have another shoot, and I don't know how to kindly tell her that I don't have enough time to edit her photos.

Nice Job Boom. Can't do much more than that. You should charge her for your time on the processing. It works for me.

my wife and her sister (and another friend) have asked me to help them visualize different hair colors, nose jobs, boob jobs (reduction, in my wife's case! :D) and other "fantasy edits". In fact, when my wife fell and broke her nose a few years ago (no, that's not a cover-up for spousal abuse, lol) she decided to go ahead and get it reshaped and she had me print the ones I had done of her so she could show the cosmetic surgeon exactly what she wanted. |

Build a better you through Photoshop. Sounds like a great idea. Maybe I could find work at a plastic surgeons office. |

I had a friend with long hair who wanted to cut it. I was originally against her cutting it cause it was such nice long hair. But I digitally hacked it for her so she'd have an idea.
I was actually surprised. She looked cute with just the above shoulder length hair and it actually had a bit of a slimming effect. So it does have it's uses.

That is more than a little amazing. I am sure you could do it the other way as well, take a thin model and make him, her really big. I don't know if I like all the changes. It is really unnatural. Kind of reminds me of the Mad TV sketch about Oprah Winfrey with the thinning filter. I always crack up when I see that sketch. Here was one I did last year. Not as dramatic and could probably still use some smoothing, but after seeing this video I might take another stab at it.
Felismenia unedited
Felismenia photoshopped.
I really like the way I took her cheekbones and made them higher and more shapely. That was done with skintone changes as well as some perspective change. I also colorized with a shade of coral to create a very nice appearance.

I think photoshoping people fat would probably be in less demand. Maybe in the 17th century. |
