I just go this email;

Hello,
I am James moore from AGRO TRADING INC ,we will like to order some of your Photograph prints and we will want it ship to our company.

We will want you to send us your web page address so we can send you our orders and we will also like to know if you do accept certified cheque for means of payment.

we are more care full nowadays due to the fact that our goods have once lost with one of this courier service but we do know of a freight company/agent that will be able to handle the shipping, their contact name is midas express Freight & Logistics and you can contact them through their email address (midasexpress007@yahoo.com),they deliver door to door and settle all taxes and other related issues.so i wiill not want you to bother about the shipping cost because they will come for the pick up and that has been our business policy.Do get back to us with your website address.
Please let us hear from you as soon as possible.

Regards

Agro Trading

what do you think, is it a scam? something sounds a little fishy to me.

Scam! There are numerous threads with almost identical email messages in them.

Sounds fishy, and I have yet to run across a company that has bad grammar or uses yahoo.

I would say scam, but if you proceed, proceed with extreme caution, don't give anyone any money, for any reason. I, personally, would be weary of anyone coming to "my door" to pick anything up. I'm not that paranoid, but I don't like strange people deliberately coming to find me.

Besides the grammar being very very odd, and the very unprofessional yahoo email address look at your portfolio and ask yourself why an ag company (assumption based on the name) would want any of your photos? I'm not saying you're not a good photographer, by the way - just that it's an odd request coming from an ag company when your portfolio isn't ag-based at all.

By the way:
Midas Express Inc, South San Francisco, CA, 415-742-0335
If I were going to check this out at all, I'd start here.

Courier Scam.

I would lean towards scam as well, particularly as "Agro Trading has no web presence that I could see, with a quick look. Midas express info is here, //www.manta.com/coms2/dnbcompany_8jv12k and I doubt that a 7 million a year transport company would use Yahoo.

Scam, same type scam used in window covering business, a friend of mine had the same type request for window coverings. I guess tthe check ends up being bad and you are left with out product and end up paying the shipping company also. Be very carefull when it sounds to good to be true!

As someone eluded to in another thread it's all part of a website very similar to DPC. It's called BSChallenge.com (Best Scam Challenge) and they are graded on how many people they get to respond. All officially graded by their SC (Scam Council). :-)

(edit) By no means would I degade our fine SC. They do a wonderful, underappreciated job for all of us. I have the utmost respect for their decisions.

I'm sure that you're is genuine. Clearly you should not let the fact that an almost identical email was sent to someone else, or that your email is most likely not personally addressed to you, disuade you in any way from believing it to be real.

Do people still fall for these?

The `certified cheque` is always what makes a scam stand out. Basically this is how it plays out.

They send you a cheque attached with a story saying that they could only write a cheque for xxx amount and not the exact amount, the cheque is valued far more than the prints are worth, sometimes in the thousands, then they ask you to transfer the differnce from the cheque (which I believe will be a forgery) asking you to transfer the change from the cheque across to them. The cheque, initially will clear, you will transfer the difference since the cash is in your account, weeks or maybe months later you get a letter from your bank saying that the cheque is a forgery and you must repay the money that they put in your account and to refer the issue to the person who presented the cheque to you, who would of high-tailed it a long time ago.

This isn't EXACTLY how it works, but its something along those lines.

personally if you are going to give any money to a stranger on the internet, make sure its someone of good standing, generally the son of a disposed king of nigeria or someone else holding equally high office :-)
