I am now seeking members for the Reaction Club. Membership is automatic, providing you are will to follow these stipulations:

1. check this thread for new photographs:

//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=481269

2. write your "reaction" (see rule 3) to said photos in the comments of that photo, NOT the forum thread.

3. A "reaction" is an honest description of how you react to a photo. It is NOT about how you think you should react to it, it is NOT about showing what rules you know. It is about the personal connections you make to the photograph, whether it's a connection to feelings, memories, thoughts, etc. If you feel completely neutral about a photo, write that! And then sit with it a little longer, look at different aspects of the photo and see if anything hits you. But be sure to write down your initial indifference. The initial reaction is important, as well as the responses that bloom from further examination and/or quiet reflection.

Who will join me on my Quixotic quest?

Oh, if it helps any, this was bucket's idea. I think I'm volunteering him. Any other volunteers?

This thread is for volunteering, but also for asking questions about "reacting". Please, no comments telling me that critiques are more useful than reactions. I'm not getting rid of critiques. I'm just providing an alternative form of critique.

p.s. I will add the username of whoever joins to the initial post in the Reaction Club thread (rule 1)

I'll put my hand up. Most of my comments are more reactions than critiques anyway. Will keep that thread on my watch list :)

I take it I can start pretty much anytime? I'll go make myself a cuppa and get stuck into some...

Ahh, and I've just spotted Sevil's work. Just the ticket... :)

I volunteer to give flakey, inconsistent, but sincere reactions.

I think that this is a very good idea, and I wouldn't mind participating.

Sure, sign me up, Don. But you'll probably have to put reminders in the team suck thread from time to time. :)

I have been reacting to a few images in the other post. I don't mind commenting on more...I mean reacting to more.

Sign me up, Don. I like getting honest reactions on my own photos, so would be happy to provide mine to others.

On further thinking, what's the point of "membership" in this club? Is not it simpler if anyone posting an image for a "reaction" accepted a reaction from anyone who felt like reacting?

I think it's more or less putting together a bunch of members who will *regularly* comment.

I like the idea--I can comment regularly except between May 8-21 when I'll be working in Spain and internet connection won't be consistent. :-)

Posthumous, you're looking for emotional reactions, right? Not technical critiques?

Yes. Of course, anyone who wants to can react. Members of Reaction Club just check the thread more often...

Emotional, intellectual, spiritual... whichever part of you is engaged by the photo.

I can't stop you from giving a technical critique... :P but hopefully you will talk about technical issues in relation to how they made you react.

I don't know about the "edge", but I've just put in three of my reactions. Let's see the reactions to the reactions. ;^)

I'm interested but I'm kinda devoid of emotion. Is that a prerequisite? :P I can give my reaction though!
05/04/2007 12:40:32 PM · #23
I volunteer to give abstract reactions.
05/04/2007 12:52:49 PM · #24
I'll play, though I do play in the Critique Club and several 30-day'ers, and try to comment on 20% of the challenges I vote. Still, willing to give reactions.
05/04/2007 01:01:10 PM · #25
I'm all about the immediate reaction. Can I get in?
