Yes

Me, too, because there would have been more reflection and less blank sky.

Live and learn, though - time to move on to the next challenge! :)

The full frame had potential however the pole on the right was way to blown out for basic editing.

Here are two of my outakes.

I probably should have entered the Palace of Fine Arts shot above instead of the one that I did enter of the challenge. The second shot of downtown San Francisco below, with the Transamerica Building was my favorite, but I had to clone out some tree branches, so I couldn't enter b/c of the challenge rules.

The Transamerica shot is so much better than the one you entered. The two Palace shots are blown out.
04/18/2007 01:24:24 AM · #10
Thanks for the comment Bo. The Palace is tough to shoot like this because the light intensity varies so much. Maybe stacking exposures might be a good way to shoot it, but I agree that both of my palace shots are blownout in spots.

Thanks for the compliment on the Transamerica shot....damn basic rules!!! HAHAHAHA

Cheers!

MAKamyk:
A has a nicer crop and better color than B - I would have voted higher!

TooCool fixed my jacked up attempt at a post (below) so I just edited the original - Thanks!

Yes you were. I had probably given 1 or 2 points more, your entry is too "flat".

Here are two of my outtakes:

My entry:

It didn't do so badly, but I think I should have gone with the second outtake

30th place and an average of 6.44 ain't bad and IMO deserved for the b/w image - I don't think you would have reached that with the color shot, it lacks of composition, is tilted, noisy and has blown lights.

Thanks eyewave it was my first attempt at shooting at night. I went out the night after rollover and I think I did a little better with the yachts the second time around but I like the B7W one.

I completely agree. The b&w is well balanced, well exposed and it's overall affect grabs you. The color pic, although great content and has an initial visual beauty, is lacking the crispness and the clarity that would make it a stunning photo.

Both nice shots... but you submitted the better one...by far. Congrats!!

If you had entered all of them (I know you can only submit one) they would all have been in the first page!
