Well this kinda sucks, friday i "lost" my cell phone. I don't know when, or where but i knew i didn't just miss-place it, as its ALWAYS with me. Well I checked everywhere and knew it was long gone so today i went to a telus store to report it missing. Well, they did a check, and turns out that in the last 2 days, whoever has my phone racked up $43 in charges! So they suspended the number and are working to get my credited for those charges. Even though i'm not really out any money it still sucks, feels like an invasion of my privacy. All my friends home and cell numbers are in there, my work numbers etc.. Ive been working to contact all my friends to make sure no-one pays any attention to incoming texts that came from that number. Anywho, that cell was out of dateish, and i get to get a new one tomorrow :) I'm looking at one that comes with a 2mp camera and some other fun stuff, things my old cell didn't have lol. K, i'm done venting. Back to your normal posts.

My cell lets me send it a special text message that will lock it and shut it down, only letting the user call the service center or 911.

That sucks about losing your phone :( As for the replacement I had the LG Chocolate, which looks kinda like that one, for about 12 days but I didn't really like that style of slide-out and the key pad that went with it. I found it too small to easily text with but maybe I just have big fingers :/ If you've tried it and like it though, it does look like a pretty sweet phone. You'd better with a challenge now that you've a new 2MP camera to play with.

I was misled by the thread title -- stollen is a type of sweet bread or pastry, and I was hoping someone had finally invented an edible phone. : )

Only $43? Most of the time I hear about stuff like this it's more like $4,300 ... glad your provider seems to be pretty cooperative.

ALWAYS install some security lock on your mobile phone. so if it got stolen or picked up by anyone, they cant use your line, and they cant access your private data.

lol ya i know i didn't spell the title right lol, im tired ok! i didn't even know my phone had a locking code thing, ill be sure to do that with my new one though.

i herd they are making phones equiped with this alarm, that is really loud, so if anyone steals it, you can activate it, and basically they have to get rid of it.

i want a phone with an ink pack like in banks where when you get hit with it, your covered in neon red paint for like a week and it doesn't come off lol. Or some kinda self destruct thing.

Ouch same thing happened to me a month back.. someone took it out of my bagpack.. But.. they didn't realize I had two mobiles with me and left the one which had my pictures, contacts everything(the moto).. The one they took was my pda.. I used it browse the net(coughDPCcough)..I got a new used one since a new pda is pointless cause I don't use it for anyhting..

I would suggest an acidic protective layer to be formed when unauthorized hands touch it..

They should make them so if they are stolen, you can send a signal and it will zap whoever is holding it like a tazer! :-P

ya lol like have a metal caseing on the phone, then when you send a text it offloads all the power left in the battery into the case, while also frying the phone rendering it useless :D that would be cool

They are equipped with GPS. Be fun to have your phone company direct you to where the phone is, and you can walk up to the person who has it and ask for it back. Scare the crap right out of them.
I know verizon has that Chaperone program which is a "spy" program for cellpones.
I like the ink SPLAT idea best. Shoots out of the mouthpiece microphone across their mouths with permanent bright green ink. For all the world to see.
If they are aware of that the TAZER as backup.

to OP: did you try calling your phone before service was suspended?

I lost my cell last year. After looking for it for a few hours outside in the rain, I went to cingulars web-site and had a hold put on the line. Then ordered a new phone.

can I tell you a funny..."world's most stupid crimminals" story?

When I used to work for a valet company, we would work parties and events all over Chicago and even up in to Wisconsin. Well one night I couldn't work this real high profile job but my buddy did, he came in the next day telling me I really missed some fun.

Apparently one of the valets found a cell phone in a car and lifted it. When everyone got back to the shop that night the manager, the phones owner and some cops were waiting for them all. The manager lined everyone up and told them they would have one chance to return the phone and if they did it there would be no charges pressed. No one moved. So the cop came forward and said the same thing...no one moved. Well the cops and the manager stepped away for a minute then came back and said "ok, last chance, who has the phone?" Still no one moved. So the cop lifted his hand and hit send on his cell phone and dialed the number of the stolen phone which promptly rang in the valets pocket. BUSTED!

The cops just shook their heads as they hauled him away.

What a moron for 1st taking it, second not taking the "get out free card" and third for leaving it on! Guess he was scared it had a code and he wouldn't be able to turn it back on.

and before everyone bashes valets for always stealing, that was the very first case of theft from that company, we were paid too good to risk losing the job over something stupid like this. This young moron hadn't worked there very long so I guess he didn't know how good he had it.

That was the first thing I thought of. Hazings can be brutal -- there is always at least one that doesn't know where the line is.

Many phones now have GPS capability built in. Though this is primarily for emergency use, it is possible to access that information for other reasons, such as keeping track of employees, children, locating a lost/stolen phone.
