I am confident that I can shoot pics and drink beer from Miami to Key West without major international incedent. Or atleast I managed it last time. :)

My last Miami to Key West trip was similar but without the camera (darn!) and it turned out to be a major intranational incident. One of those experiences in life that you would never forget. After a couple of rumrunners I might get the courage to tell this story.

I can't come for a week, but I hope to hook up with you folks for the second weekend, when I have a holiday.

Ah, working for the federal gov't has its perks. :)

I just PM'd Wayne to let him know about the recent posts regarding the concerns about this GTG. I'm just glad that I happened to check in tonight and that I saw this thread. I've talked to a lot of people who are definitely interested. Now it's just a matter of somebody doing the legwork to finalize some details like hotels and some sort of itinerary.

Well, as for lodging, I have a really big tent. I'm covered. :)

As long as the schedule works with the relief of my boss, I'm in.

(and I'm still driving. :)

Unless you are ex-Special Forces like my brother, you DO NOT want to camp in the Keys in October. He did last weekend for one night at the Suwannee River, and the second night he joined us in one of the air conditioned cabins.

It is still hot and humid in October and, for me, it is miserable to try to sleep in a tent in those muggy condidtions. It does help though if you camp right on the ocean in a place like Long Key campground. You can pitch a tent literally a few feet from the water and take advantage of the breeze.

I know it is expensive but I want to visit Dry Tortugas again. I really enjoyed it when I was there many years ago. Let's put it on possible to do list and see if anybody else wants to get out there.

Since I wasn't able to meet up with ya'll up at Cindi's, I'm keeping fingers crossed for this one.

As to sleeping in tent, in Florida, in October... are you crazy?!?!?! Between July and end of November, is the worst time. It's like swamp country. Hot, muggy, oppressive. ;)

Now for sleeping next to the water's edge, all I can say is, have fun! We've done that, once woke up to landcrab in my sleeping bag, another time, tide had risen higher than we thought it would, you can figure what happened there. And don't forget the no-see-ums! Take clear nail polish with ya. :D Otherwise, it is wonderful. Well, I don't know about in October, but being by the water is just good for the soul, no matter when!

Hey Nick,
You can count me and Christina in for this. It looks like a cool little trip either way we go.

And looking at the options, I really like Trip 3 on the seaplane. That would be a blast!

THIS GTG IS GOING TO HAPPEN

I received an email from Wayne (the OP) and he has had some health problems since his heart attack that have limited his participation on DPChallenge and he has asked me if I would now take the lead on this GTG.

I had planned to tell him that I would be glad to do so after I return from my trip to St. Thomas, USVI. I leave tomorrow and I'll be back on August 2nd. I was planning to start another thread or take this one over after I returned. I'm glad to see that there are at least a few resilient folks who refuse to let this GTG die. I'll address this more when I return next week.

I just PM'd wmprkg and responded to his request that I take over the lead on this GTG. I let him know that I plan to start another thread on August 2nd (the day I return from my trip).

So watch for the new thread and join us for a great time in the Florida Keys.

Are the dates set? If tbey are then I'm afraid Manic won't be around yet. I will be but I will only have just moved back there and most likely will not have a car. I'd love to do this though so I'll watch the thread and see what happens.

I believe you will be here, but Manic won't yet. October 2-9.

I live in Delray Beach, FL, and I would love to join this GTG. I don't know if I can make if for the full week, because I have a commitment in Michigan on Oct. 9. What sort of commitment do we have to make here, and what are the procedures for making motel reservations, etc. This will be my first experience with a DPC GTG.

Bump! For those interested, be looking for the new thread next week.

I am always ready for more of this kind of fun.

Do we have a working schedule or agenda yet? I'd kind of like a loose plan so that Nikolai and I could start looking at that sea plane ride and some possible dates for it.

New thread for this GTG can be found here.

Wayne ( wmprkg) notified me by PM that he is unable to continue the lead on this GTG due to complications from his heart attack earlier this year and asked me if I would like to take over.

Please use the link, above, to discuss and indicate your interest in this get together.
