i installed a spyder2 express on my winxp sp2 machine last night. it's an LG L226wt monitor, and a ge force 5200 agp card ( with updated drivers ). i disabled adobe gamma, removed all the calibration software that came with the monitor, removed the color profiles from graphics card control panel, and removed the color profiles from the display>advanced>color management panel.

the calibration goes fine, the sensor works fine, the software does it's thing, and finishes. at that point i get an error about the profile that was created having issues. pretty non-specific...

i am able to preview the before and after look, but when i click to finish the software i get another error that reads like this.

Error6 ( cmssupport.cpp 262 ) invalid handle.

when i try to manually load the profile created (it is listed under the profiles directory ) it tells me it can't load the profile. and something about the file handle being to long.

if i reboot, colorvision pops up when windows loads saying it couldn't load the color profie. i've unsintalled and reinstalled the colorvision software - as well.

i am getting very frustrated, and assume this must be something fairly simple, but i can't figure it out. the color vision support site is pretty useless from what i can see. every search i have done returns no results.

does anyone know how to resolve this? i'd like to get this new monitor calibrated - or i may end up returning the damn thing, and going back to my decade old CRT.

You resolved your problem? Or this is your strange way of bumping the thread?

I'm interested in the answer as well since I'm still deciding on what hardware calibration device to get.

my issue might have a been combination of things, resulting from manufacturers who don't want to have the liability of supporting the products they sell.

however, i suppose it could have been user error. but i don't consider myself a typical consumer, and had hoped the whole thing would go as smoothly as the check out line at bestbuy... ;}

to explain the process would be useless, but it did involve much more than it should have considering the package of monitor, graphics card, and spyder2 cost me around $550.

be prepared to mess with more than the just the calibration hardware when you decide on a unit.

Same here -- bought a spider last week. There was significant difference between the before and after on the Dual LCDs I'm using now, mostly having to do with a color cast I was not able to adjust out of it with the controls. But what you say is true, I have noticed no difference between the LCDs and my by-eye calibrated CRT on the other computer.

The only trouble I've come across is operator error. I calibrated during the daytime, with daylight coming in the window by the screens, so they show some banding now that they sun has gone down. Need to recalibrate for less ambient light.

The only problem with the calibration process I had was the lack of support for dual monitors. It calibrated the first ok, but the second it kept giving me an error about illegal monitor handle or something. I eventually had to calibrate with one monitor connected, disconnect and calibrate with the other connected and manually set the profiles created. It went smooth once it only had to deal with one monitor at a time.

well at least we know the images we edited on our CRT's are ok. i was a bit skeptical about what they would look like after calibrating with hardware...

I just wrote an article on using Spyder Express with dual monitors. Find it here:
