I am charging a friend of mine this Saturday 75 dollars an hour plus a cd with the all images on them, If they need any prints, they have to pay for it. They have three different wardrobes they will be wearing. Do you think I should charge more or less??? Please help because people want me to take pictures of them.

If you give them a CD of the files they won't buy prints from you. They can buy an 8x10 for $2-3 and you'll charge $12-40 (as you should). Perhaps if you explain retouching and photoshop they'll pay you for prints.

$75/hour is a decent starting point. It depends on your business model and your client. Business head shots are usually a flat fee. HS Seniors it's common to discount or even give the session free - but then they spend $400+ on prints.
For events, like corp and fundraisers, I've been charging 90/hour and some find it cheap, others not. I can make $125+ on some jobs and for weddings, with all the time in making the album, all the images one has to deal with, etc it closer to $75.

Pretty much if everyone buys from you, then up the prices a bit till 80 or 90% buy. As you improve your perceived value will increase and you can charge more.

Hi Donald

I'm charging 125$ for a photo shoot... I dont count the shots or the hours... Before I strart, I tell them the way that the CD will be.. because all the photos on it have a watermark ...

They can't print or get them print anywhere... If they want some prints, of course I remove the watermark...

Good luck and dont work for nothing..

Cheers

For a friend, $75/hour seems high. I do shoots for my friends for free. I suppose it depends how close the friend is and how much work they are looking for.

For cuatomers I prefer to charge one up front fee and give them the CD with some photoshoped images and the understanding that I'll do others if they want (they rarely request more). Much easier for me and the customers I've had prefer it over being nickle and dimed for each print they want.
