I wonder why they put "must" in the challenge description but didn't make it an extra rule. Well, at least the voters who read it will have voting guidance on non-color shots.

I think I caught lightning in a bottle last time around. I'm not sure I can match that again.

Should this be taken literally? Meaning that the portrait needs to be colorful?

Yes, it should be taken literally, but you're only half-correct.
It doesn't have to be colourful, but it should be a colour photo ;)
lets get anal with the descriptions! LOL

Am I the first to notice this should be Color Portrait III and not II?

Wait a minute, I'm thinking of Color Studio portrait II.

I didn't even know there were these parallel challenges. (There's even a Color Studio Portrait I...)

What are everyone's thoughts on a selective desat shot?

Challenge Details: Your submission must be in color (no B&W, duotones, sepia, etc.)

I'd DNMC any photo that even has a selection in anything but colour.

I think this is important in that this particular challenge doesn't call for a studio meaning an outdoor portrait or an environmental portrait would be good but I fear they may be met with DNMC if it is not obviously in a studio.

Don't you love DPC? Man, lately I've just had an overdose of collective angst meeting the challenge causes. There are days where I just want to say, "enough"!

I wouldn't even have thought about giving an environmental portrait a DNMC. But to tell you the truth, I'm not even sure I noticed that the challenge I ribboned in was "studio" portrait. I think I got lucky there.

color - no B&W, duotones, sepia, etc.

portrait - a likeness of a person, esp. of the face, as a painting, drawing, or photograph: a gallery of family portraits.

that's it.

why make a fuss?

Sure. You can do whatever you want with the photo as long as it meets the Advanced Editing ruleset. Now, on the other hand, if you want a decent score... :D

edit - typo.
