I havent read up on this yet, but I was thinking about selling some prints here with DPCPrints. Is there traffic? Do you sell prints? I have three domains that have traffic I could sell prints on but I would like to have a central location.

I guess I'll have to read about the percentage DPC gets later.

OK, 30 views and no responses. I guess that answers that question.

I don't know the traffic statistics for the DPCPrints site. I have managed to sell 17 prints since the beginning of the endeavor in March of this year. The site is relatively new and it is attracting more and more traffic.

I've sold one small one, but I've not been here very long, and don't do a lot of "regular" gonna put it on your wall sort of stuff.

So where do everyone's referrals come from?

I've had three pics up there since September but haven't sold any yet. I partly think that it's because I don't do any of my own referrals. I joined DPC for DPPrints originally, to see if I could sell some, but I assumed that the site would do it's own "marketing" and that they had a customer base.

Obviously, others are selling some prints, but I note that others have websites devoted to their photography, and do cross-posting type marketing. Or maybe it's my shots ;-), but I don't think so. My Sunset Bow picture got exceptional accolades when posted to the various photo sites, which is one reaason I came here to see if I could sell any!

Another possibility is I need more of my images for sale, but the hurdle is the time it takes to meet the DPPrints requirement to upsample images. My experience so far is that the printer does this just fine, and it is unnecessary and cumbersome. I printed my original resolution Sunset Bow at 20x30 over on Shutterfly, using their Fuji print process, and it came out fantastic. Everyone is surprised to hear this is a 4MP digital shot.

Here's what I have for sale. I think they're sellable.

What do others think? So why have't I sold ***ANY***?

shapiro,
i too found the upsizing process kind of odd and time-consuming at first. but i've done it a bunch of times now, and am used to it. i can take a picture and re-size it for printing in just a couple minutes... the only downside i see to it is that your confined to that one aspect ratio you choose... you can't have the same file and print it in 11x14 or 16x20... so the buyer has to like the sizes you chose to be available. i think that might be a bit of a drawback, but not a major one...

i do believe that the advertising plays a big part in it as well tho. the more you advertise the site, the better it'll get i guess! :)

I've sold two - but then I do no marketing of them whatsoever. I ought to, but there are other constraints ...

Ed

PS. Wish we couldd ddo greetings cards and calendars ... Fuji (who I believe do the finishing) have the stuff set up through FDI ...

Wow! You've sold about 50? Do you advertise? If yes, how? I've sold 6 prints to strangers, and I find it kinda funny that somewhere, in someone's house, or office, one of my prints might be hanging. Weird idea. Anyway. The only "advertising" I've done is include a link to DPCPrints in the signature for my private e-mail messages.

I just noticed the gift certificates option. That's good.

I also find the size restrictions a bit of a drawback, makes me want to have all my prints in 1:1.25 or 1:1.5 ratio because those have a fair number of print sizes offered.

What size prints have you sold? (What sizes sell the "most"?)

8x10 for me (3 pictures). Also one each of 4x5, 10x15, and 16x20.

It is important to remember how much a print sells for when talking about quantities. If I offered all of my prints "at cost" (no profit), there is a good chance that I'd sell more prints than I do now (I've only sold 2). That said, there are a large number of prints on DPCPrints that are priced at absolute bargains compared to what you'd find in any kind of retail store for high-quality, non-mass-produced prints. (There are also a number of shots that only "family members of the photographer" would have any interest in.)

I've sold a total of six. I don't feel too discouraged because
I decreased my listings and have plans to rebuild and refresh my store front.
Like everyone has said it's a new site.
If I had the funds I'd buy 100 or more. I would love to own some of everyone's art. There are some fantastic shots on DPCPrints.

I've sold
four 4x5's
six 8x10's
three 16x20's

I consider myself doing pretty good considering I am new at all this. I feel pretty blessed.

Wow, we are doing great! I have sold 6 total, (5) 8 x 10 and 1 panorama. I just love the thought of someone browsing the site and finding my prints desirable.

I always thought that certain prints were chosen for dpcprints. Can yuo request your shots to be sold for prints?
11/21/2003 09:59:03 PM · #19
Any paid member can sell prints. Read the "Sellers' FAQ" page under the Help menu.

I have sold one 8x12 so far and am excited about that. Have just recently made up some business cards and started to pass them out, and am going to see if I can sell more by doing that. Personally, I really like having a page on dpcprints and am very happy with the printing service it provides:)

I've sold five. I wish I knew who bought them. Thanks who ever you are.

Looks like most of you are doing pretty well. I guess I could push traffic here to my images once I build up a catalog eh?

Thanks for all the replies.

1 - 4x5
10 - 8x10
3 - 16x20
2 - 16x24
1 - 20x30

8x10 and 16x20 are the easiest sizes to get frames for.
