a few months back i went to online-photography-contest.com, submitted this photo for a contest into the people category.

had totally forgot about it and a few days ago i got a letter saying that they'd like to publish my photo in a book titled "Endless Journeys". Obviously I was pretty excited. Curious to see if anyone else has had the same thing happen and if they know anything more about it. Apparently they are hardcover coffee-table style books.

i'm still pretty pumped about it.

Did you submit this image to picture.com? (edit: Ok, I read to fast... this sounds like it could be the same company though, they seem to change their name quite often. Look into it as much as you can, and be cautious before you send any money)

It's fun to get that letter, but (from this site anyways) its a scam. I've heard of people that paid for the book two years ago and they still haven't "published" the book.

(another edit: Their "Winning Pictures" link just goes to a viagra add with links to a viagra website.. odd.)

I've already decided that I'm not buying the book, but it was sweet to know that someone out there recognized the pic for what it was. Besides, it costs about $80 US for the book. thx

I'ts a scam, I got the same type of letter this week!

I would suggest not even sending them the paperwork back to have your image put in the book. I mean, it would be nice to get published and everything, but they make all the profits off others images.

I got the same thing from the picture.com site and after looking into it I decided not to even send the paperwork in. This sounds like the same thing. On the picture.com site pretty much everyone that submitted a photo got the same letter, and this sounds kind of the same.

I don't mean that to say I don't think your shot is good though ;)

I hate to burst anyone's bubble but I believe they send these letters to just about anyone who submits a photo to them, I once got one from picture.com, they say no obligation to buy, send in the release blah blah blah, but the book is always like $80.00, the bottom line is anyone who buys the book will have a picture in it, I was taken with the same scam when I use to enter poetry contests, it was such a thrill to receive that letter saying they were going to publish you, the first time I went for it bought the book and everything, but after receiving four or five of these, and other people I know getting them, it's pretty obvious that it is just a ploy to sell books.

I also think your photo is very nice, and would be worthy of publication, unfortunately I don't feel that this time it is being offered to be published on merit alone.

Shannon

I suspected it was a scam. I got a letter, too. Thanks for posting this. WHERE'S THE NET POLICE? I HATE them taking advantage of us like that! Jackditch, I'll meet you in the crying room and buy you a beverage.

I just now (10 minutes ago) got the same picture.com letter. (In Australia). Sounded interesting, but after having just been swindled out of $1000 on ebay, I was wary, so I checked here - yep, sure enough, looks like it's bogus.

Not sure I'm going to be in the mood to take many photos over the next few weeks, what with losing $1000 on a camera, and now this farce.

I got one of those letters about 3 months ago. I was pretty pysched. But no way I was going to spend $70 US on a book just to see my picture =\ I'm so glad I didn't send the money now. Phew.

It is a lovely photo though. Captured the moment nicely :)

haha. this happened to me on poetry.com... turned me off of poetry pretty quickly. poetry isn't something that belongs on the internet anyway..

just to add on
I got that letter too some days ago
submitted to picture.com

Don't want to rain on your parade but they publish most of the photos submitted. It's a marketing ploy. I have gotten the same letter twice for two different books. I haven't been back to the website since then either.

It's indeed a scam. I got such a letter once too. After having read it, it went straight to the dust bin.

Yeh - I have been 'published' a few times as well and my son has had poetry published as well. What a bunch of wan*ers

LOL, thanks again everyone. It's been funny to see just how many people have received this letter in the past few weeks. Hopefully we'll get some more postings to get the message out and save people from wasting $70 U.S. on a book full of scams.

cheers again.
Ditch.

Perhaps the recycling bin would be better ...

That's good information. I am aware of such scams in other areas. I do laugh when I see someone who puts on their resume that they are listed in "Who's who". But I don't know for sure how fake that is.

On the other hand, I have hard evidence against Poetry.com. We had someone who said they were listed in their site and a book, so we went to visit the site. It wasn't working very well, so my daughter and I left them a little limerick, which was quite trite, but funny in that it criticized the site for not working.

We have won numerous accolades for that marvelous work of poetry (LOL). We have yet to attend one of their "conventions" to which we have been invited to pick read our masterpiece in front of the audience, though they have offered to do that for around $300 or $400. ROTFL - Pardon me while I get back on my chair....

So I've discovered the way to test the scams. Just upload a crummy picture. See if it too wins the recognition. As long as you know its bad, like our poem, you won't be fooled, and we will know it's a fraud.

Sadly I've gotten the same letter myself.

I am going to load a bad photo there for fun. Where do you put it--in the photo contest?
