I broke my flippin toe a couple of hours ago. Third time I've broken the same toe in 3 years. How is that even possible? Got it really good this time. I heard it "SNAP" when I hit it. Was moving a bed and the bedleg and my pinky toe collided hard. Its all black and swelling fast.

I know there isn't anything that can be done for a toe (or atleast that's what I have always heard). I just needed to whine for a minute or two while my stomach churns.

**********************************************************************************************************
The reason for the revival of an old thread (see below)

"Well, its been 15 months... and ... uhm... its not the toe this time!!! :D

Found out a few hours ago that the horrid blue/green/gray/red/black area on the instep of my right foot is actually a chipped bone and hemotoma (sp?). Why must I break stuff so often? And why is it always on this foot?

I know, not fun without pics.... I'll try to grab one tomorrow. :P"

<karmat just shakes her head>

could be worse. could be your shutter finger.

Does this run in your family? Could it be low bone density?

Ouch!!! Sorry to hear about that Cindi. I've done that many times but never broke it. Hurts like a sonofagun! I'm not a doctor, but you should probably keep it elevated and put some ice on it. Take it easy.

Ice for 24, heat for 48. Elevation, ibuprophen and after a day or so you can use a little athletic tape to tape it to the toe next door to give it support. (Broken pinky toe, squished by a pony)

Karma - I'm sooooooo glad it wasn't a shutter finger, but I don't think I'll be hiking for photo ops for a few days. lol

Paul - I don't think its a family trait, just clumsiness! :P

Erick - Yes, yes it does!

Marc - Thanks and yes it smarts real guuud! I've tried ice but I can't tolerate it for long at a time and I'm not moving around too much, you can count on that!

Thanks! :) I remember the routine from last time, about a year ago. It wasn't so ugly looking last time though and didn't make that icky snap sound! *gags*

Cindi, Cindi, Cindi, what're we gonna do with you?

I've no immediate advice on treatment, but for the future, wear protective shoes (no open toes!) when doing jobs like that. Seems like a stupid thing to have to do, but the suffering it saves is worth the inconvenience!

Hey! If I dip in it peanut butter maybe I can shoot it for alternative medicine! LOL

Kirbic, I live in Florida, wearing shoes is soooooo hard!! LOL Thanks for the sage advice! :)

In light of the current "Alt Medicine" challenge, I feel compelled to suggest arnica - either in topical gel form, or in sublingual pellets.

Might be nothing more than pseudo-science, but it seems to work for our family.

Speedy healing - broken toes really do suck.

yup...been there. it sucks! so sorry, cindi...hope it feels better soon!

Never tried it but it can't hurt, eh? :) Thanks!

Ouch! I did the same thing last year. Such a nice sound that "snap". Mine just stayed sticking out to the right (right pinkie toe) so I had to pull it straight and then lightly tape it until the swelling went down enough to let me wear a sock to hold it.

Anyway, I was a huge baby about it at the time so feel free to whine all you want.

Hehehee it looks like there are several of us here who can't control our feet! That makes me feel a bit better! :D

I LOVE your idea, Elvis! Your my kind of doctor! lol

ok once is an "ooops", twice is a "OMG not again", 3 times that toe just has to go! It's nothing but trouble for you, go right now and get the hacksaw before the swelling goes down and you start to regain normal feeling again. Come on what's the toe good for anyway...plus think of all the fun stories you can tell when wearing flip-flops and sandels. lol.

j/k Hope you feel better soon.

Hahahahahaa okay that is hillarious! I have a sorta-sharp knife, think I can hack it off without making too much mess?

I feel for you!

I went through a phase where I was continually hurting my left foot...
Broken pinky toe from accidentally kicking the couch after I rearranged the furniture. Broken middle toe from a bottle of iced tea falling out of the refrigerator and hitting only that toe. (This toe still hurts after 2 years!) Dropping a heavy travel mug full of coffee on top of my bare foot and not being able to put any weight on that foot for a couple days. Ridiculous!

I finally resigned to wear shoes 24/7.

One time I was all excited about playing football with friends one afternoon that when I got out of the car someone passed the football to me, I caught it and promptly fell over on the ground because I sprained my ankle by just standing there. Talk about a klutz!

Edit to add: Oh yeah, it was my left ankle I sprained! LOL!

please forgive me but I can't stop laughing at the thought of spraining your ankle just standing there. lol

Maybe the "slick" part of your username is the problem, maybe change it to stickychik.

Oh yeah, you're a fellow "Dew" drinker... kick it up a notch to make you feel a LOT better:

1 1/2 oz Absolut Citron vodka
1 1/2 oz triple sec
3 oz Mountain Dew

or

1/3 JD and 2/3 Mountain Dew on ice

Repeat the process again, and again, and again... or just make a big batch and keep it next to you so you don't have to get up to make more. :-)

As sad as it is to admit. I've done this lots of times. Put your foot in epsim salt. You can find it anywhere. It really does help with the swelling.

Oh my god I'm such a fan of this drink!!! I've only discovered triple sec like a month ago and have already bought three bottles. (Maybe I have a slight problem here:))

Thanks so much guys for making my misery a bit more fun! lol Update on the color situation, now dark gray/black on the entire bottom, sides and 1/2 of the top and swelling is going nicely! :P

On the upside.... I got an entry in for tonight, hobbling or not! Ha! lol
