That had to be the fastest submission I have ever shot. The ideas are endless and it really gave me a chance to get back to basics. Thanks admins!

Is cow-tipping considered a game?
05/13/2002 08:11:02 PM · #4
It is to the cows when they get mad and start chasing you...

Only until someone loses an eye.

Just make sure that you can tell the difference between a cow and a bull before you try it.

Someone said it is a Southern Tradition! Well since you know what it is, would you or someone else explain to an ignorant (in that case me) what is it?

Actually I believe it started in the midwest.... here is a link that explains it. //www.digitalo.com/vrml/cowtip.html

Yeah it may be a Southern tradition but I grew up around too many cows to be interested in the practice. However, I did try the cow's salt lick and molasses mixture on a dare from my cousin.

Nice follow up for a hard subject. It took me a day to think of what I need to do for this shot vs the 4 days it took for upside down. I dont think I am going to shoot it until Sunday afternoon though.

I am excited about this one, I have planned out my shot look forward to this one.

Didn't anyone ever watch Beavis & Butthead? :) If so, there's an episode where the duo decide to go out and see what's so fun about tipping cows over. They head out, find a cow, and can't figure out how to knock it over. Finally, one of them crouches down behind the cow while the other pushes from the front. The cow trips, sits down on one of the two, and much laughter was had by all...

:) We have cows in the north, too!

I am glad this thread has turned to cows rather than sheep...I shudder to think!

let's try to guess how many people will take pictures of chess sets
05/15/2002 02:53:52 PM · #17
that's a good point, ach. definitely the first thing I thought of, and the easiest thing to think of : ).

Doubtless, too, there will be those who drag out the malachite, marble, and pewter museum quality sets, and then there will be the cardboard board and plastic pieces shots.

i wonder if i take a picture of a set of chests, if anyone will get it....

Remember everyone thought last week we would have kids on monkey bars as the cliche shot. It turned out to be reflections in water or spoons instead. I don't think we can predict the cliche shot but if we are guessing, I'll say baseball games.

Have to admit, I'm worried my ideas will be cliché shots -- even if fun to do. May do it/them anyway, just cause it'll be fun.

Discussing one shot as being cliche just pushes the cliche to some other subject....

but see, i didnt think the reflections or the spoons were cliche shots for "upside down at all." there was one spoon shot in particular that was absolutely amazing, and a number of reflection shots in that category too.

and maybe the reason there were so few monkey bar shots was probably because we talked about it! : )

heh, maybe I only think it's a cliche if I thought of it... ;)
<recognizes own subjectivity>

We will probably see a lot of baseball because it's that time of year and it's available as a subject. Have the challenge during football season and....well :-)

I also think we'll see a lot of board games. They are great macro subjects. I had planned on shooting a few Monopoly shots on tight macro but I got lucky this week and had a beautiful shot of another subject plus I somehow expect to see a few monopoly shots.

Hopscotch, city pic-up basketball, the list goes on and on. Games are plentiful in this country and fun to shoot.

Whew, my planned shot is not one of those listed as a possible cliche. On the other hand does that mean no one is going to think it meets the challenge? lol.........who cares its going to be fun to shoot, if it ever stops raining.

Ah but if it's not on the cliche list then _loads_ of people will shoot it! Mine is on the list so I can guarantee nobody else will pick it (what happened to all those pictures of bats that people talked about?).
