My question as well - it's been too cold to find people on the streets...unless I go to the bar section of the city in the wee hours before closing time, but I risk getting beat up.

I've enjoyed shooting for this challenge, like many of the other posters. I don't have many more opportunites to try and get a keeper before the voting begins so I don't yet know if I will have a photo to enter, but I've had a lot of fun just the same. So much so that I'm beginning to window shop for point-and-shoot cameras that would be well suited for street photography. I find that my dslr is just so conspicuous, both in size and in loudness when I push the shutter. Any thoughts on an ideal digital camera for street photography?
Something else I'm wondering about is what can I DO with the photos? Assuming there is no model release I know I can't use them as stock. But I have found tons of internet sites and even print books and magazines that are devoted to street photography, and I doubt that many of the photos included in those are released either. What are the rules? Just wondering. |

There was a thread around here somewhere talking about this. I think as long as the photo isn't used for commercial purposes you can sell them. For example, prints - something also to do with editoral usage is fair game.
If I wasn't busy trying to edit my street challenge shot I'd dig a bit for it myself. :D Good luck Ray! |

I am so far ahead on that one...
I took that image the minute I read the verdict. Check out the date uploaded LOLOL ;)
I snapped that as a joke since my Subway stop is 47th Street (The Diamond District). I got out of the train and took 5 shots of the first 5 people I saw that fit the bill. I gave it a little style to set it apart from diCorcia's image.
My asking price is $20,000 if anyones interested.

ok I officially HATE this challenge! This is absolutly the first time I have found images I feel good about submitting. And I can't decide which one!!!!
I went out yesteday and shot over 300 images, I have narrowed it down to 4 images and can't decide on which one to submit. I have submitted one and am now second guessing it since I processed the other 3. I'm really leaning towards 2 of them but I like the other two also...dang it. how do you set of a ghost account so I can submit more than one image? <--totally joking there SC. ;) |

I'm starting to hate this one, but am learning tons. I've already driven almost 300 miles in search of people in 3 different outings and I'm still not happy. Going to try one more location tomorrow - will probably freeze my ass off and regret ever going out. *sigh*

Notice how many of those shots are in colour?
... I just LOVE my camera for this stuff I found out ... I just hold it around the lens resting it on my camera bag at hip level slightly tilted up with my thumb on the shutter and walk around. Enough features and not too huge ... under 200 bucks ...

My Rebel is a bit intimidating to people when I'm close by. Sometimes I let it hang from my neck on the strap and hold it underneath. That way my pinky can sit on the second shutter release that's hidden on the bottom, on the battery grip. But I still get nervous looks from the illegals. I should've used my A95 for this challenge, but it's like going back to coach from first class.
Nice shots, Greetmir! It's great how your got so close & those subjects are still completely absorbed in whatever they're doing, not a clue you're there. A very good technique.

Ideal camera? Probably a Leica, they seem to rule the street world.
For me, I've been using my large K10D with my small, fast, 25 year old all manual 50 1.7. To most people it looks like a wideangle, but at 75mm equiv its really a short tele.
If I had a few extra bucks lying around I would have bought a Pentax pancake lens; I want one anyway and this challenge would have been an excellent excuse. The DA 40mm 2.8 Limited is only half an inch thick! It wouldn't even extend past the edge of the grip on my K10D.

I think what might intimidate people is the fact that you shoot with no clothes on and you break into a two minute victory dance right after you've taken a shot you think might be a winner. |

TYVM! I consider that high praise indeed as that was what I was attempting ... to be invisible.
Those shots in my "In The Streets" folder were taken on my very first serious foray into street photography. I really enjoyed it and was happy with the results. You are gonna see MUCH more of that stuff from me.
