| I have made a concerted effort to make as many comments as I could this challenge. So far I have made 48 out of 109. It has taken a few days so far, but I am almost half way through. |

Here is one connection of votes and comments.
In challenge "Still life" are my votes so high as ever and 3 comments (I think my picture is very boring, but fit with topic)
But with lower avg. vote picture are much more comments.
For challenge Book titles I made a picture which will probably get a lowest score and highest amount of comments and I had a fun to make it.
And I love to get every kind of comments.

The fun you have making it, in the end, will affect some voters and commmenters. If you can move one (person), even if it is yourself, others will follow. ;-) |

the pictures that get the most comments usually fit into the two extremes. either people really love your image, or they don't like it for some reason, be it horribly done, or offensive in some way. also the unique images, which can fit into one or the other extreme. :o)

That's because its easy to think of comments for these photos. The ones in the middle that aren't really exciting but also not really terrible are harder to comment on, so get fewer comments. And the ones that don't generate much emotion (positive or negative) don't compel viewers to take the time to make comments. |

heres an odd thought. we all might get more coments if we made a concerted effort to thank pepole who made them.
just a thought.
no need to rush out and do anything about it. ;)

I've agreed 100% for about 18 months.
Time again to plug my idea of a PM "Reply-To" link on the comment page, obviating the necessity of viewing the commenter's profile page every single time you want to send them a note. |

How could we go about pushing this one through? Has it been included in the site suggestions forum?
I have tried in the past to reply to every comment on a challenge, even with a "canned" response. But I usually try to answer specific comments, and it starts taking so long that I eventually run out of time or steam. A quick button that inserted the comment into the body of an email message would be so conducive to doing this more efficiently. |

Don't get me wrong, the few people that send me an e-mail saying they appreciated my comment was fine. But if I go through an entire challenge and leave 150 comments, the last thing I would want is finding my inbox filled with 150 e-mails all saying "Thanks". Just mark your comment as helpful and that is thanks enough. If you have something more than "thanks" to say, then by all means, send an e-mail. |

I understand what your thinking but if you've taken the time to really critque a photo and not just WOW = 10 ;) or YUCK = 2 =( a comment back thanking or disscussing the issue sometimes helps you see what the voters are seeing

| I'll take this opportunity to say my thanks to everyone who takes the time to comment on my photos, regardless of whether they think it is good or bad. I prefer comments to scores. If I have an image score low but receive tons of comments and a few people mark it is a favorite I'm happier than I would be with a ribbon photo nobody really loves. |

About every month or two ... it it's a bit of a controversial idea and there's too much unrelated stuff -- it's never risen close enough to the top of the To Do list. But I'll keep trying. |

| I think what she was saying was that she finds 1 in 5 comments truly helpful, and she takes the time to thank them. |
