I was just looking back through my comments received and wondered why I hadn’t marked them all as helpful.
And these were the ones:

1. Who's there?

2. Oh look, I have Photoshop...weee

3. Purdy rad, but a tad uninspired... well, really uninspired

4. HELLLO, NIHAO.

5.

6. Made me laugh and then the objects made me ill.

7. lousy title

I was wondering what yours are?

Don´t remember but they were all pretty similar to yours :)

Don't get me wrong...I really like comments, since I'm new at this I love to have constructive critisism, almost everything is helpful, b/c I really want to learn, but i've noticed some people just don't like to be nice...anyway hope you all have a great day!

1. Parody? lol.
2.This gangle does the machine no justice....
3.Brry and pretty boring... it is
4.that's nasty

This is probably a case of drunken voting... It happens.

yea, i suppose people should just keep their opinions to themselves. that way we could have threads complaining about lack of comments.

I hate one liners. What's the point?

I also hate it when people quote back to you the description of the challenge. Dorks!

I thought this one was witty (from my brown ribbon Wildlife entry):
"trying for a browie hugh. Okay I'll help. "

Hmmm... I think most of those could be helpful if you took the time to try to understand the commenter's viewpoint and divorce yourself emotionally from your image for a while. It would be nice if all commenters left detailed critiques, but, that's unlikely to happen anytime soon. You're better of taking them as they are and getting what you can out of them rather than complaining.

Hey relax people, I think he just meant to point out that these comments are funny. Check out the OP´s profile, he marks like 99,5% of the comments he receives as helpful so I don´t see it as if he is complaining about comments in general but rather is pointing out that these are pretty far out there and ones he found funny. Correct me if I am wrong UNCLEBRO.

I at least found those 7 comments pretty funny :)

I see what you are saying and was expecting someone to say something like this.
But, I'm not complaining.
I'm smiling and laughing at them.
I mean, seriously, how can a comment like "Made me laugh and then the objects made me ill" really be construed as helpful, unless of course that person has an aversion to hubcaps!!!
#3 and #7 I suppose could be perceived as helpful.

Here's my top ten:

10. Where's the Sears when you need it?
9. 4
8. lame
7. Its a reflection shot...
6. halle berry? 5
5. nothing is totally in focus.
4. 1 for the photo + 4 for the title = 5
3. What is that in the background?
2. what

And the winner is...

1. contrast is great but it take away from something else

There are two ways to say "You over-processed this." One is the adult way, and the other is the second in that list of heartless comments.

Yes, there's a syndrome of complaining about a lack of comments, then complaining about comment quality when they do come in. However, I don't think there's anything wrong with pointing out the childishness in some of the comments, or the complete lack of the most fundamental kind of respect for another person's feelings and intelligence. Will it stop bad behaviour? No. Do people learn anything from barbed comments, other than the fact that others are jerks? Maybe. Neither of those are reason enough not to remind such individuals to remain civil, and that an adult atmosphere is preferred over a school playground one.

This one is my favourite:
NO ..

It was a comment on a pic of a cat - I can just imagine the voter's face while he was typing this!

As a recent addition to this website, I posted my first pic about two weeks ago for the table shot, and I did receive about 2 actual helpful comments out of 23. Either way I know not to take it to personally. My photo happen to be to small since, this was my first time posting, and I received 21 comments about it being too small. 21. was that really necessary but again I appreciate that fact that we have this website and we are allowed to critique other people's work. I am the type of person where if there is nothing nice to say, then dont say anything at all, but I understand we are here to give advice, and if people feel the need to mean when they present it then thats their prerogative.

Perhaps some of them thought they were actually helping you by letting you know that a larger image will show better therefore score better. Try to ask yourself WHY a particular comment was left - most people here aren't malicious. And welcome to DPC. :)

they can't see what others have comented. so you would rather that the 21 all assume that someone else would say it was too small then you wouldn't know and continue to submit small things?

edit to add: welcoms to DPC but bear in mind you should have somewhat thick skin if you are gonna recieve constructive critisism.

My favorite comment to date has been the first comment on this shot. It apparently bothered the poor chap so much he never returned to DPC again and is the only comment he ever made. lol

I had to go 32 pages into my comments to find four that weren't helpful to me.

ok

Ok? Is it an okay picture? Is it an acknowledgement of some kind? Okay! Okay...? What the heck do you mean?

dirt where?

While metaphorical dirt was the subject, there was literal dirt all over the scene, and neither was terribly subtle, so I have idea how the commenter could have missed it.

0-3 met challenge = 3
0-2 creativity = 2
0-3 Lighting/Comp = 2
0-2 Viewer Appeal = 0
My Vote = 7

and

Meets Challenge - 2
Lighting/Processing - 2
Composition - 1
Overall Impression - 1
"WOW" factor - 0
Score: 6

How about telling me why instead of just throwing down a bunch of numbers? I have no idea what a compositional score of 1 or viewer appeal score of 0 means to you.

Maybe it was her jilted lover who left the comment :-)

And that's the sort of comments I was interested in hearing on this thread:-funny off the wall, crazy, totally random stuff.
Not a rant or anything about the actual "quality" of comments etc that has been covered so much in the past.

Can we? I didn't look.

Ooh, we can - here's some fun ones:

Isn't that an oxymoron like jumbo-shrimp?

I guess there is a snowball's chance in Hell

parfait.

Here I am again in this mean old town...

this is your body without a suit...

Looks like glitter in a souvenir shop. Throw it out of the temple...

I never knew that! Thanks. I only have 2 not marked as helpful.

1. gkghv
2. What a mess!

Everything else, even in a roundabout, occasionally nasty way, tells me something. The second one I didn't mark as helpful because it seemed he went out of his way to make hurtful type comments.

Here are my three favorites

nothing showed up but an x

nice shot, but where is the dramatic effect?

Pity about the focus - otherwise a pleasing shot.
