Post your outtakes from the Free Study 2007-01 challenge here.

Two of my many outtakes for this challenge. One of the hardest to choose from IMO.

And my entry:

Did I make the right choice?

Here's my other choice for this free study. It was hard to decide for me:

Minus the copyright, of course.

I swear I got screwed at the last minute. I had that 5.5.

These were shot a minute apart and a twist of the polarizer :)

I'm very happy with my placement, but still not sure if I shouldn't have entered this one...

January was a good month for me...

I could've gone with a few shots from this series, but I was leaning towards this:

I love the way the light fell on the water in this one - no saturation boost here:

I really like the mallard shots I got (despite my DOF score on another of this series):

And with my heron shots, I debated using this one to show the amazing view we have here in Vancouver!

But, at the end of the day, my entry was my third best at 6.4118, 59th out of 557. Can't complain there!

I really bombed in the Free Study; I can see now that it was a weak entry, but I wonder if either of these would have done any better?

This was my entry
Honest opinions gratefully received!

The entry;

The 1st outtake;

I used a layer mask here to have the background in sepia tone and the child in colour.

The 2nd outtake

Here I have simply desaturated the yellow channel but it produced a lot of noise in the background.

Andrew, I didn't catch your entry while voting (I actually missed a bunch). But this one would have got a 10 from me.

Personally, the b&w is my favourite.

I agree - the B/W is my favorite. I love the line of the rocks on the upper left and how that shape is mirrored by the clouds and the large rock on the lower right. In addition, the contrast in B/W really brings out the small rocks in the foreground.

Thanks guys, I have to say it's really hard to try and choose what shot you want to enter after a 24 hour shooting spree in Southern Utah. I really appreciate your comments!

I wasn't sure how the subject matter would go over.

My best finish in a while, for which I was pleased.

Here are a couple of outtakes...

All of these were candid portraits shot within a few minutes of each other.

Would any of the others faired any better? I'm having trouble breaking the 7's!

The one thing that really drew me into your entry was the pools in the red mossy stuff in front. Your outtake doesn't have that detail.
