Yeah, I got a little crazy this morning, and posted THIS eBay listing.

I figured, "What the heck. What's the worst that could happen?"

Also, I thought maybe it would be a cool way to get rid of some of my stuff, and make some dollar bills. At the same time, someone else gets something nifty.

So, whaddya think? Think anyone is actually going to bid?

no offense, but i think that's part of the reason ebay is going into the toilet.

seems like that there should be something against auctions like that. But, good luck to you. Reminds me of that guy that "traded up" a paperclip. (It's been a long time since I read that story, so I don't remember if it was an urban legend or not)

Sheesh, what's wrong with my auction, and how does it contribute to the downfall of eBay?

eh, this is marginally college frat-boy humor, but the real demise of ebay is with the sellers charging HUGE shipping rates on teeeny items, and the fact that the big stores have over-ridden the little guy.

What made ebay great was that the little guy could easily sell his used stuff on the internet. What makes it suck now is they are lost in the bazillion pro shops advertising for the same thing new.

I didn't say anything was wrong with it. Just seems kinda out there. But, then, it is ebay, so I guess it is to be expected.

Well, I figured that eBay was a place to put your goods/services up for bid for money. Well, that's what I did. Put my goods up for sale; albeit an unknown thing. The world needs a little humor and something that's a little off the beaten path.

I think its a fun idea. If ebay doesn't work for you, try craigslist! :)

How would you do something like that though? You can't get people to bid on stuff though Craigslist though. Would it just be like, offer me some money, and I send ya something? lol.

I've thought about putting shares of my life on ebay- not really sure how it would work- but I am pretty sure ebay would pull the auction.

Haha, that's awesome. Make your life a semi-stock market? When life goes good, the price of your stock rises?

While it is a funny concept I suspect the auction may be pulled by Ebay, after all there is no description of the item to be sent... but at least there is a returns policy

I suspect it will get a few bids - people shouldn't drink and surf lol

Haha, wicked ebay auction.
I nearly fell off my chair at this bit;
"I hate this so much, that if I can't get rid of it, I may set my entire house on fire to get rid of it".

Nice one, :D

HA! you are hysterical. I almost want to bid, just to see what I get. I've seen people auction off "mystery boxes." I bet someone will end up bidding. ;)

I wonder how much of a description that I'll need in order to keep eBay happy? "The item that you will receive will fit in a box, is equal to the value of the winning bid, is colorful, and weighs no more than 10 lbs"

Anyways, I don't really expect to break the bank with this auction, but I wanted to have a little fun, ya know?

Maybe you should bid. You'd be the first one, and you could get something spiffy. :D

You are so risking your feedback rating. This feedback is cherished by most sellers (and buyers, for that matter). It is hard to keep a 100% positive rating.

You mentioned that you would send them somehing "awesome". Well, "awesome" is in the eye of the beholder. If you sent the winner your toenail clippings, you would probably get a negative rating that will stay with you (at least your eBay name) for the rest of your life.

That example was way out there, but even if you sent them something that you truely thought was valuable to someone (say a nice hardcover novel or something), the recipient may not like it (heck, s/he could be blind for all you know). Again, another negative feedback sure to be headed your way.

Just my $0.02 worth...

I hear what you are saying -- but I also said that I would send them something that was roughly equal in value to the highest winning bid. Also, I offered to work with the person if they really hated it that badly.

I doubt you'd get negative feedback if someone doesn't like it. After all, anyone who bids on this is doing so just for the surprise element.

It's a good idea, but I don't think it will work, mainly due to the lack of searchable keywords in the title. Random? Apartment? I dunno.

Just keep posting links on sites like this or myspace if you want to get views on it.

Good luck.

No shipping to Canada?

I'm not sure it abides by ebay rules. Just got off work and am tired so forgive me for not finding the eBay rule to link for you, but I recall there being a rule against lottery style auctions. You must actually be selling a specific thing -- if offering multiple items, all items must be the same. It's a fun auction, but I wouldn't be surprised if eBay pulled it.

That is the best idea I have heard of, and it really made me laugh.. As I am also a starving college student, why not get rid of your stuff so you can buy gas?
