I was just wandering if there is such a Thing outside the UK called a Pantomime, where Children play active roles in Fairy Tales and Men Usually play the Part of some Whicked Witch.
Plays such as Snow white, Jacj and the Bean Stalk.
Is it unusual in your Country for this to Happen, as I thought it most natural that it is World Wide.
I cant say too much more at the Moment because of the obvious !
But I would like to know |

I'm a Brit currently living in the US and I can assure you, that Pantomime is a completely unknown quantity over here.
I've lived in Central Europe too, and have never come across it there either. I believe this is a uniquely British phenomenon. (I suppose Australia may have something like it, but......)

| Pantomime is very well known and practiced in Russian theatres and in its former republics. As far as I know pantomime is not limited to child acting only. |

Must be a British thing ... and the empire. I remember them as a kid in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). And there are still a couple held at the major centres around South Africa near to Xmas.
And the 2007 one is already being advertised. |

Well known in the UK & Australia. I get completely blank looks if I ever mention it to anyone in the US.

yeah, I'm sorry, I've just read the first post several times - it's not about children what i posted. but it IS pantomime, the way it's been in Europe for many hundreds of years. and it's a great movie to watch anyway, isn't it?:)
this is actually the first time I hear the name "pantomime" used only for children play...interesting |

Wikipedia to the rescue
Pantomime in the UK/ colonies is something different than say Marcel Marceau who would be considered just a plain 'mime' where I'm from.
