Ok...so i'm new to the photography world and I need some tips. I just have a simple digital camera...it's a Kodak Easyshare C743 and it's a 7.1 mexapixel camera....I love it. But anyways...i love to take pictures but I'm not sure about all the editing and what to take pictures of and all that....so if anyone has tips on how to take better pictures...i would gladly appreciate them :D

One reason I joined was that the challenges helped me figure out what to take pictures of. Also, the comments received have (for the most part) been helpful.

For processing, you could start with something simple like Photoshop Elements, or just jump right in to something like CS2. Once again, I went from knowing absolutely nothing about processing to much better just by entering challenges and reading the tutorials and forums. I still have a LONG way to go, but feel I have improved a lot.

Shoot things that you think are beautiful. Shoot things that you think are ugly and make them beautiful.

Shoot interesting things and try to make them interesting and shoot boring things and try to make them interesting.

But most of all, shoot!

The best way to get specific tips is if you can show us some of your work. If you don't want to pay for a membership here, you can host your photos somewhere else and link them. Otherwise, specific advice on how to be better is kind of difficult!

Some general advice:

- the forums here are FULL of helpful advice...read read read!
- leaving comments for other people can help you quite a bit in your own photography. You don't need to be a whiz, you just need to be able to articulate what you like and don't like. Go in with the understanding that not everyone has mastered accepting feedback graciously and you'll be good.
- take tons of photos. With digital, there's no reason not to. If you don't want to shoot for the challenges here, you can still use the challenge topics if you need ideas. Or check out the PAD with a purpose thread - these people are doing daily or weekly photos that focus on a specific theme. You could always steal one of their themes or use them to help you come up with your own.

Welcome to DPC!

You'll find this site to be a great learning tool by reading through the forums, browsing the photo archives and enter the challenges.

For post processing, if you don't have any software yet, you can go to //www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/

to download a free 30 day trial of CS2.
