I don't know how many of you have seen this.... but I wanted to bring this to attention. I have been following this story and I received this in an email from a friend......

Whether you support the miliary or not, please voice your outrage at the heinuous display of cruelty captured on video of what appears to be 3 U.S. Soldiers, one holding a video camera and two throwing rocks at a crippled, defenseless dog.

This video could be too graphic for some people - you are warned!

I have researched SNOPES, and logged onto military photos.net blog site where soldiers are voicing their anger at the inhumane and abusive behavior that was displayed in the video.

This is a defense-less, crippled dog that tried to run away and escape (on TWO legs) while these men through rocks at him/her. This cannot be misconstrued as a vicious animal which the army has orders to shoot. These men taunted an emaciated disabled animal without provocation.

YET ANOTHER INCIDENT INVOLVING A DIFFERENT DOG BEING SLOWLY SHOT TO DEATH. AS OF 6:56 PM
1-18-07, THE LINK BELOW HAS BEEN DISABLED ON MYSPACE.

I erroneously entered my name as the target, this is an obvious oversight. THE TARGET IS THE UNITED STATES ARMY AND ARMY PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE AND WHAT THEY PLAN TO DO WITH THESE MEN.

Please sign this petition.

Now you may not think petitons actually do any good, but please sign this. This makes me sick. Poor puppy. :(

And please... do not yell at me and tell me that I don't care about the soldiers or blah blah blah. What was done here is very inhumane and cruel. I do think that the parties involved need to be punished! This is being shown ALL OVER THE WORLD! Is this what we want other countries to think we are like? This sets a bad example for us!

Honestly, I could care less. If they want to blow off a little steam by tossing rocks at some gimp dog after getting shot at all day, that's fine. Frankly this is probably just the sort of entertainment a lot of average grunts engaged in before joining the army anyway. If you want to petition against it, you may as well petition for the arrest of all teen aged males living south of the Mason Dixon line.

Soldiers can't win. I never see a petition going around to get them higher pay because of the great things they do. We only bitch when they do something stupid.

Trust me... I totally give my heart to those who defend our country. But... I don't see how this is "just blowing off a little steam"! Like I said, other countries see this and think we are complete a$$es! Well.. some already do, but this adds fuel to the fire!

I'm all for giving our troops a raise, or whatever they may need... but this is cruel.

And as for the "If you want to petition against it, you may as well petition for the arrest of all teen aged males living south of the Mason Dixon line." quote... they do have laws against it. Some just aren't dumb enough to tape it!

I don't see a video.

I did see the video and there is no indication to me that those soldiers injured that dog in any way.

I agree. Just put the poor thing out of its misery.

It's always that 5% that makes the other 95% look bad.

I long for the day when Americans care about Iraqi people as much as they care about Iraqi dogs.

Hmm... I'm not sure they were taunting or intended to be cruel. From the looks of it, I'd guess they spotted this dog walking on two legs (and probably already spooked). This isn't exactly a sight you see every day, so no doubt they wanted to record the dog doing it again to show others. The dog probably growled at them (not unexpected), so they tried tossing stones to get him to move. Certainly not very compassionate, but also not entirely unexpected. It didn't look like they were lobbing bricks or trying to hurt it, and at the end it sounded like they weren't sure if they should put the dog out of its misery. I don't know all the circumstances, so I can't really pass judgement on the soldiers, but I DO feel sorry for the poor dog. :-(

At the very end of the video... they say, "wanna go kill it?" or something to that effect.

I dunno.

I'd swear I hear at the very end "should we kill it" ...

Overall, it is pretty easy to take this video out of context.

I think killing it would have been the right thing to do.
01/21/2007 02:00:07 AM · #13
The very last words are, as I heard them, "can I kill it?" (I replayed that several times to be sure.) I think someone asked just before that if they SHOULD kill it.... maybe the one in the group with some compassion?

My main problem with all this stuff is that the media has no reason to be over there. Not that this is the case with this video...

I'll be honest...I think that probably 90% of the military that had some charges brought against them throughout this whole Iraq thing should have the charges dropped. So what if they threw some rocks at some dogs. So what if they pissed on some moron soldier that tried to kill them. So what if they tied some idiot that tried to kill them to a pole and beat him...I'd do the same damn thing.

Ridiculous. Shoot the Iraqi dog...it is an Iraqi.

If ya stop to think about it:

Perhaps the dog was rabid. Who here would have any issues with killing a rabid dog in their neighborhood?

It is quite possible the dog HAD posed a threat to soldiers and/or civilians. It obviously was not fond of humans.

I wouldn't have a problem with them killing it and putting it out of its suffering. I do have a problem with their enjoyment of its suffering.

Holy Crap! If that dog were running wild ANYWHERE in these United States, you damn well know what would happen to it! Well...maybe not California.
Put the poor thing out of its misery.

I long for the day when people stop caring so much about what capitalized word precedes "people" when they decide whether to care or not.

At the risk of getting flamed, I submit that if it didn't matter what capitalized word preceded "people," your own post wouldn't have differentiated.

Yes, I often contradict myself, as most great thinkers do. :P

That was my first thought - sickening that there are hundreds being killed or injured every day, and someone starts a petition up about a dog.

I am not sure about dropping the identifiers - it sounds a bit wishy washy to ask "when will people start caring about people" without putting it into a political context.
