I notice that some of us really like to play or toy around with Photoshop or which ever post-editing program we may have. I have learned a lot from this site about editing and non-editing of pictures.

Quite a few members really want to have a chance to have challenges with no rules on editing and Photoshop use.

Thought this up right after looking at Cvt's thread. I think I add a little too much fun on his photo. I also have a ton of photos on CD and my hardrive that I don't use. So why not pull them out of storage and have fun with them?

Why not post a picture and have whoever wants to play, edit, add captions, add special effects to it. I would select a winner and that person would post a new thread with their picture and so forth. I think we can have a lot of fun with this.

Should I give it a 24,48 hour limit? If anybody wants to play I'll post the first picture.

Have fun........

Good idea. I had been thinking about something similar recently--I would love to see how a number of different people correct/finalize the same photo. I was thinking more in terms of correcting it, and I realize your "club" is open for any interpretation of the photo, but it still sounds great to me! I don't know if I have time to do this right now, but I'll follow along, and hope I get the chance in a future "editing-challenge"

Neat idea Faidoi. Doubt I'd enter, but I would be really interested in seeing the results, especially if they gave information on what they did to achieve it.

Not a complete "take Fred out of the photo with the factory and put him on a beach" but essentially the same photo enhanced, cropped, etc etc etc.

It would almost be worth having a really poor photo and see the difference, as well as a pretty good one. For instance, the Hooters one the exposure looks about right (on my monitor at least), so it will be interesting to see how much cleaning up people can do.

It can be up to the winner to choose. Either clean it up or make it funny. I would like it cleaned up a bit and if you can make it humorous go for it ;)

Ok, if I get a chance tonight I might have a play with it.

In the meantime faidoi, please return to the location, have that message board removed, and reshoot the shot for me ;)

What type of time limit should I give it? 24,48,72 hours? Then we move on to the someone elses picture?

That way I get to try my hand at it :)

Well, every three days gives us some time to play... Otherwise, some may not find time to keep up...
11/04/2003 12:38:25 AM · #8
I'd suggest 72 hours to start, see how many bites you get.
11/04/2003 12:44:09 AM · #9
I guess it can also be up to the poster. On your individual thread post the picture, what you want to see (techniques or format used), and time limit. The poster will make the rules. That way we can try different things.

This way if you have a good picture (not saying mines is good) you can see some great results.

I'll give my post 3 days to run it's course. If this doesn't work I'll retire it earlier and let the next person post.

On the image I have above I want everybody to have fun with it. Make the sky orange, add Godzilla, caption from the guy walking, put some weird on the billboard, whatever you want- Free For All.

Remember - Which ever results I like the next poster can make up whatever rules just note it on your thread with the image.

Just Have Fun..........

Ok, I know the lighting isn't quite right on the "peak", but for a fun entry .....

Warning: Mildly adult content (hence a link rather than a full image).

Extremely quick and dirty:

Great idea, but there are already sites that cater for this kind of work, such as Worth1000.
What I'm hoping we will be able to do at DPC at some point in the not too distant future, is to take a good initial photo(!) for the purpose of enhancing it in a professional manner to give natural results, which seems quite different to the Photoshoppery going on in this thread.

It's up to the next poster. If he/she wants submits a photo and wants something like a zit or mole remove and for the photo to look natural so be it. If poster prefers a natural looking non photoshoppy picture all they have to do is request it and write it in their rules.

Ah, but that's not what faidoi asked - he suggested fun, play around, captions, etc. Sure, we could Photoshop in a 'professional manner to give natural results', but sometimes, you just gotta have fun!

Cvt's thread was specifically asking for PS enhancements, and that's great, some nice results. I hope I see more of those types of threads. But there's no reason we can't play, too.

:)

Fair enough, but there are many people who repeatedly vote against relaxing the rules, because they think the photos will all turn out looking false and Photoshopped. I want to make it really clear, that if we relax the rules, it will be for the purposes of making natural looking photos. So threads like this make me nervous...

Reading this thread we know who likes what kind of photo chopping methods or what not.

If you feel that this thread is not for you. You don't have to continue to read it.

If you read the complete thread. I have mentioned it quite a few times. That a different person will post something different and it's up to them what is to be done.

They can disallow fake photoshoppy method, it has to be DPC legal means, any tools in Photoshop as long as it looks like something you took with your camera. It's up to the next poster.
