To be fair, you did write that, you just fluffed it up with other words too.

The moral is to be careful.

It is not fluff ... I could take a long comment by you and omit or cut and paste words to make it look like you were saying something that you weren't ... sheesh ...

In the meantime ... I have uploaded some new images onto my portfolio ... enjoy and feel free to critique and comment ... How else am I gonna learn at this old age?

I think it depends on what is omitted. If you omit key words, such as "not" which might change the whole value of what is written, then yes, you have a point.. If you just omit parts of a sentance but retain the essence, but it makes the detail more blunt, then that is fair.

I cannot just now, but will look later.

Well I am just so excited about what has happened with this thread since I opened it ... which ... btw ... was only a couple hours ago.

What an amazing group of people you are and I am honoured to join you.

Welcome, but be careful, not everyone in the amazing group are amazing people, some are individual or groups of bastards... :D

First off, I didn't add or change any words in your quote. The ellipses (....) were there to show the omissions.

It sounds to me like you were upset you got a stinky PM, and the first four responses you got to your original post contained the advice to ignore it. Then, someone offers you a membership and now you want to use your new portfolio privileges to "be revengeful" and "embarrass" the person who sent you the PM - and these are your OWN words - and yeah, I absolutely don't think that's very constructive. You can fluff it up all you want by trying to make it appear that you are doing them and the community a service by teaching them a lesson to not judge a commenter by a portfolio, but in the end, it appears to me that your primary motive is to prove something -- self-service rather than community service.

And what happens if they see your portfolio and still aren't impressed?

There is nothing to be gained by a negative activity (trying to make someone else feel bad just because you have some hurt feelings). Why not just ignore it? Focus on the postive activity (commenting) that garnered you the support in the first place.

Well most here seem to be amazing and that is pretty amazing in itself for any focused group. If there were NO rotten apples, I would assume that I had died and gone to heaven ... or Valhalla ... or SOMETHING!

Again ... thank you all ... I cannot believe how much you pushed to make a total stranger welcome.

You are right, of course, ... I was just so blown away by the response of the people in this place that I got a bit frantic. You have made me realize that there is NO value to me or us to contact this person further regarding their email to me.

Thank you again.

... and thanks for being so stubborn to make your point through my babbling. Vengence nor revenge has value.

Greetmir, your comments are always well appreciated, don't worry. Being critical of others is important to websites like this, and if they are offended by your comment they probably know it's true. Revenge = bad, just ignore people like that. Keep up the commenting, especially harsh on me I need to improve!

PS. I forgot to say, that you are not alone. We all recived some of those PM's atleast those of us who are sincere in our comments and not only comment the ones we like.

Greetmir - I just wanted to say that I am a recipient of one of your comments and I do appreciate you taking the time to leave your thoughts. You didn't have to do that but you chose to do so - and the information was helpful. Thanks!

I'd like to add that as a newer member, I contacted Site Council with a query regarding a commenter whom I felt was destructive, and I got a sensible, objective perspective that made me realize that the comment wasn't necessarily as much of a comment about me as the comment writer.

Sometimes an experienced different perspective is all you need to take the sting out of a comment, and believe me, Site Council has most likely seen and heard it all. (I think it should be renamed Site COUNSEL!!!!)

Of course, if I would have known that I could get a gift membership out of starting a thread and whining about it, I definitely would have done that!.....8>)

Seriously Greetmir, I have been the recipient of a couple of your comments and though at least one of them I did not agree with, it is readily apparent that your input is honest and thoughtful.

And truth be told, I'd almost rather have a well thought out critique that helps me change something and improve than an "OH WOW!!!!".

Okay, I'm lying a little, I like "OH WOW!!!", but you know what I mean.

I am a Canadian that married a Belgian lady after meeting her within an online game ... then communicating for two years ... then us both travelling back and forth across half the planet for a year ... then moving here to marry her. That was like almost 8 years ago and my Flemmish is terrible as my wife AND her mother and father and both sisters speak better English than a lot of my friends from Canada ... well better vocabulary ...

Of course ... Belgium has the distinction of being the one European country that brings in TV programs from Canada, USA, and Britain WITHOUT dubbing them. They just put subtitles at the bottom.

I LOVE movies in the original language (the lips move with the words and the original sound track is not mucked with). I don't care what language it is.

I agree with you about the last thing! We don't have dubbed TV programs here in Sweden either - they're all in the original language with subtitles, except for some children's movies.

Sometimes I can be a bit harsh when leaving comments, especially to those who I feel may be shooting for the brown and enter something completely out of challenge. That really winds me up. In the current BW challenge I left probably my harshest commment ever, but eventually went back and changed it, it was a bit `blue` even for my standards.

I do leave nice comments as well, as some of you might know!!

Leaving harsh comments is completely different from sending someone an email saying "You don't have the right to comment until you've been here longer."

Welcome to DPC Greetmir. I just found this thread very interesting

Comments (opinions) are similar to parts of the human anatomy, everyone has these parts. Take the positive comments and learn from them by applying the technique. That’s what we are all here for, to learn. The negative comments, just blow them off.

Even if you think a capture is of poor quality just remember the person behind the lenses took his/her time to photographic the subject.

The worst comment I have ever given ... methinks ... is ...

"I am sorry ... I just don't get it"

EDIT: To add: Although all my comments are not available as most of them are on currently active challenges ... in another day or so you will be able to see ALL my comments and judge for yourself whether I have been rude (I don't think so) or if you think my evaluation was WAY out of line (I hope not)

At any rate ... I consider my comments (which will be ALL available for all to see after any challenge is completed) open game for comments regarding MY comments if you thought I was brutal to send them to the photographer. I don't think you will find many if any.

I wouldn't call that bad. All it means is the message of the image is not getting through either due to cultural differences or the image is not presented well.
