I would have gifted membership to you too, but next two months I have to spend a good amount of money.
Nothing to worry about though, just my wife is pregnant and in japan this baby stuff is pretty expensive. I am not sure how much I had to pay in the end.

Congrats to your new shirt, Greetmir!

When I saw this thread, it reminded me of a reply I got to a comment I made 'bout a year ago, it said: "You cannot even hold a camera!" - and now have look at the front page...

Greetmir - I have recieved your comments and I really appreciate the input and effort you put in, it is obvious that you look at every photo in detail and then make your vote. So many here just give a shot a 2 second look and hit the vote button, I vote very little and comment little too so I salute someone who has the time and can make the effort to do it.. I always spend time on each photo that is why i don't vote so much, I take my time on every shot.

Welcome as a member.

I received an email that states "You should take some more images before being a critic!"

Well ... I cannot afford a paid membership here so only have my initial very failed abstract attempt at fences in my portfolio and cannot upload other examples.

Should I make NO comments to photographers telling them that I like their photos or why I would have given them a higher score if they had done this or that IMO?

EDITED: ... until I have more photos in my portfolio?

I think you should post the name of the photographer here so we can all quietly and politely discuss this person!!!!

I'm only joking of course :-)

ow not to worry! one day I'll wear that blue shirt.
Unfortunately we can't make a deal about that babystuff. I work for a small company. We design and manufacture babyfurniture. It's manufactured in China and sold in Holland. But I think shipping costs will be a bit high to Japan LOL!

if you wanna take a look just for fun, this is our website:

By baby stuff I meant the delivery charges of hospital etc.
But this reminds me that we have to buy the real baby stuff (that is furniture etc too). OMG lots of things to do.

I am trying to look the website but the language is my prob. I am trying though.

Just a reminder that if you ever receive an abusive PM, please contact the Site Council (Help -> Contact on the menu bar) and let us know who said what, so that we can deal with the situation.

In our case also some part of this would be covered by insurance.
But our case is little different, my wife had prob in conceiving so we (after two years of effors and treatment) decided to take baby in vitro, so for me the medical costs are just adding up. But money is no issue if my wife is happy. And she is very happy.

Keep up the good work Greetmir. Comments are gifts.

Say anything your heart desires.

Just remember that there are people out there that automatically think that their imagery is art, and therefore are 'great' artists.

The only great artists I know of are usually dead.

I did that thanks stuff IMMEDIATELY ... just need to walk away for a bit to deal with it and then sort and fill up my portfolio.

Thanks so much to all for the support!

btw ... is there a way to search for a user's portfolio by their user name? ... I would like to drop a message on them to look at my portfolio (and this thread) tomorrow

There are a couple of ways.

You can go to the PM you received in your inbox and click on the reply to *****. There you will see that persons name at the top of the window...click on it and it will take you to their portfolio.

OR

You can go to Community/Photographer Profiles and then type in their Username in the Username box, then hit search. This will bring up the list of compatible names and then you click on the appropriate one.

Hope that helps.

menu;
community, dropdown menu> photographer profiles

then search by user name :)

eta, beaten by the infamous Judi and "flying fingers" bear!

What are you hoping to gain by doing this?
01/16/2007 06:47:25 AM · #69
I think he just wants to share the fact he now has a portfolio. :-)
01/16/2007 06:55:26 AM · #70
I dunno. I guess I just want to show them that I am not such a newbie to photography as I am to this website and make them a bit embarrassed to have been so judgemental about me and maybe help them NOT be so rude to newbies in the future?

btw ... cut and pasted from this users profile ... "This user has never posted in the forums" ... even though they have some super photos in their portfolio and many of you have commented on them praisingly.

I don't believe I ever DID comment on this person's photos ... they commented on mine and I thanked them ... to be answered with ...

"You also got to do better on the snaps you take before you become a critic"

... so I guess they just don't approve of my comments to others that they have seen ???

I just thought this person might benefit by reading this thread and maybe (admittedly a bit revengeful) feel a bit abashed when they see my portfolio tomorrow. They might realize that they have no idea who they are talking to when they bash a newbie after reading this thread and looking at my portfolio tomorrow?

Gain me? ... not much ... gain that person AND other newbies in the future that that person may not bash ... SOMETHING, I hope.

A bit of detective work, and I think I know whose comment you are referring to. Assuming I am right, I wouldn't take it too seriously - they have cut and pasted one particulaar comment ('try using a smaller aperture next time so both girls are in focus') to three completely inappropriate photos - not a judgement I would trust! may be completely off the mark, but it has filled up my lunch half-hour!

Look, I'm sorry you got a stinky PM that made you feel bad, but turning around and trying to return the favor isn't going to solve much.

FWIW, I think the fact that you take the time to comment is great! That seems to be a much more constructive activity to be engaged in...

Anyways ... enough ...

I am SO freaked out happy about my portfolio and the general attitude of the users on this site and I just wanna post some more of my shots in my portfolio for you all to BRUTALLY critique. ALL comments welcome and I will never be offended by your comments ... but might be disappointed by one that simply says "THIS SUX!" with no explanation as to why you think so.

Again ... thank you all so much and let us let this thread peter out?

OH ... I think that is SO unfair and not representational of my post that you put "..." in place of a word or two that does not keep that comment in context. It took a LOT of work just to edit out select words ... just to sell what you think? ... I think there is a lot of difference between what you put there and my original sentence ...

Anyways, folks ... thanks for your support and check out my portfolio in an hour and let us let this tense thread peter out as I am celebrating my new portfolio.

I never said that ... I think it is not right to quote me then cherry pick comments that I see now are even from DIFFERENT paragraphs of my post ? WTH is that? So it is cool to quote someone ... THEN edit the the quote all to hell ... THEN disagree? ... I think not ...
