I just cannot believe how horrible this past week has been. First my truck froze up ... easy fix, just had to get a block heater. Next the water pipes froze. Once thawed out the worst was realized. The pipes had cracked when they froze. After three days with no water, the repairs were finally finished at a cost over a thousand dollars. Ran out of fire wood for the wood stove, but can't get any delivered until Tuesday. Not to worry - I have ToyoStoves that heat with oil. Well, I got home from work tonight and noticed immediately upon exiting my truck that I could smell fuel oil in the air. Went inside to find that the house temp was only 50 degrees. Since I should have had enough fuel to last me at least another month I knew I had not simply run out. I went outside to investigate only to find that the warm temps today had caused a major snow/ice slide off the roof which landed on the copper fuel line that comes out of the tank and into the house. It had ripped it away from the tank, and the fuel had all leaked out. So here I sit, with no heat, no money, and at my wits end. No one around here will deliver oil until Monday at the soonest. I guess I'll be spending my day off tomorrow scrounging up fire wood. Oh - and the snow/ice that fell also took out the connection to my propane tank for the stove/oven. I'm starting to feel this bad luck will never end. Meanwhile I have no idea how I am going to pay for the plumbing bill and the tank of oil I now need.

Anyone got any hugs you can give out? I really need one about now.

if my luck doesn't change soon I'll be selling both my 20D and the 30D to pay for things. That will really suck

Massive hugs...

cold brings you down (when it's not making you angry)

If I'm not wrong, people around there know the problem(s). You'd help them if they knocked on your door, so...

This time next year you'll be so ahead of the game and feeling o so smart and snug and warm.

More hugs, rub rub rub.

Hang on, I'll just breathe on the screen before I send this

there, that ought to warm you up for a nano-second or two.

Don't sit down when you're tired, always get the fire lit first.

Be well.

(even more hugs)

Goodness!

Hugs from the tropics!
Wish there was a way to box up some sunshine so I could send it Fed-ex to ya.

Hang in there, things will get better.

Linda, Look around, are there any construction sites around you? I was in a similar situation just 4 years ago, and the small pieces of 2 by 4's kept my house warm.

Shutterpug keep yer head up haus. I feel yer pain. I had some awful luck too. Caught the flu Wed., puked till I thought I had a hernia, as soon as I finally fell asleep from not feeling nautious I felt a toothache coming. I have been drilling black-market pain-killers, and an old bottle of anti-biotics now for 4 days.

Lucks to ya, I will send prayers out in your direction. Remember, worrying is simply wasted energy, all we can do is take steps to fix the problem.

I feel like I could puke - and my head is pounding. The smell of fuel in the house is really bad and I am not sure why as there are no fuel lines running in the house - just the two that go from the tank to the toyo stoves. All I can think is that the line to the one toyo - which runs under the crawl space must have gotten pulled loose where it connects to the stove when the lines got slammed with ice. Whereas the other pulled loose from the tank. So not only would I have oil spilled on the ground along the side of the house by the tank, but also under the house in the crawl space. Both have to get cleaned up. I have no idea how much this disaster is going to cost me.

Call your Insurance Agent! Sounds like a claim to me.

I would be willing to paypal you some funds if I could get some commitments out of atleast 20 other people. If everyone donated 25.00 you could atleast get through this current disaster.

Any donations?

I would join Kel there. Happy to do what I can to help, Linda. Alaska is cruel in the winter, I hear, but worth it if you can hold on till summer.

I'm happy to pay $25 by paypal to help! Maybe God will bring beauty out of the ashes Linda to show you how much you are cared for, and how your friends will come thru for you when you need them!

Sent Linda an email requesting her paypal addy. She hasn't answered yet, perhaps she will post it herself. I am guessing she is out dealing with these issues at the moment.

It sure is nice to see people jump on the bandwagon to actually really help others here. I know there will be those who frown on things like this for whatever reason. But for those stepping up to the plate, I would like to say thank you.

aww guys - you're are just too nice. I wasn't asking anyone for anything more than a listening ear as I needed to unload.

I will be having to file another claim with my homeowners insurance - as I did with the frozen pipes fiasco just 5 days ago. The deductible for each claim is $1000, but they will cover anything after that. This claim is really gonna rock them though if the fuel line in the crawl space broke. Any fuel that is in the soil under the house will have to be dug out and the ground mitigated. We're talking around $10k.

I'm giving the Alaskans time to wake up then I have to call the heating plumbing guys to come check the fuel line in the crawl space, followed by finding someone to come clear the rest of the ice/snow from the roof (2 story house with a metal roof). I really pray no one falls off the slippery roof or there will be a third claim to the homeowners policy. ugh
Once all that is taken care of I can get more fuel delivered on Monday. Until then, I'm getting firewood delivered today for the wood stove - the fire department said they would bring me a half cord for free! I'll need a lot of wood to keep warm though as the fumes in the house I was told can be dangerous and I need to crack the windows open to air the place out. Thus the horrible headache and nausea I have had since I awoke. I had gone to the fire department asking if they knew of anyone to clear the roof, and while there almost got sick from the headache and nausea - they had me breath in some oxygen to clear the fumes from my system. Now I am back in the house and the headache is back.

Going to run into town to get a big plastic tarp to put the fuel contaminated snow onto before it too leeches into the ground. I will be back on later.

Kelly,

I am truly touched by the generosity of you and other DPCers! I hate having to need help. I have always prided myself on my independence and right not it is so hard to not be able to get through this on my own. I am going to accept the offers to help only because I truly am broke now. You guys are a lifesaver!

My paypal is shutterpug@gmail.com

I will be calling my insurance company on Monday with this new claim. The last one was just days ago. They're gonna hate me. Each claim is a thousand dollar deductible, so now I'm $2k in the hole.

Thank you again

Linda

Can you stay completely clear of the house till someone's checked out that fuel line Linda?

*big hugs*
