Is anyone driving to or through Amsterdam on July 1st? I need to get there to catch a plane to Barcelona. Or can you tell me where can I buy train tickets to Amsterdam? Thanx!

I bet Gary or Nasty can give you information about train tickets from their, they went to Amsterdam last year from where we are at that time.

We got some people from Amsterdam coming (ajschel for example). Unfortunately I am not returning home right away, so I cannot take you there.

I think you can buy the traintickets at the Muenster trainstation, it is close to the workshop place so you could check it out before it starts.

They went by car. I was sitting on a streetcorner when suddenly a little red car full of sweaty exhausted hungry people came around the corner with a hangover look in their eyes.... That had to be them.

Thanks all!

I will be flying out of Dortmund instead, it should be easy to get a train ticket from Munster to Dortmund so I don't have to buy it in advance, right??

Alright, here's my dillemia. I've been fighting with this for awhile but this past week brought a run of bad luck that made me concider not going to the GTG even more.
So, reasons to go:
1. My flight is non transferrable, non refundable, no credit. I can't get that 1300 back in any way.
2. never been to Europe
3. Get away from the kids, have some 'me' time
4. Get to learn and meet all you guys.

Reasons not to go:
1. We've moved(wasn't expecting this to happen when I purchased the flight in January). We have a new rent payment thats more than twice as much as our old mortgage, we still have our old mortgage(the house hasnt come close to selling) plus still paying for utilities there and here as well of course) so money is tight.
2. I've moved and I can't change my flight to leaving from here rather than atlanta so i'll have to have my family drive me there(6 hours away)
They will have to pay for hotel, food, things to do etc. in Atlanta while i'm gone.(I cant take the car by myself since we only have one useable car and my husband needs it in case of an emeregency with our diabetic daughter, and just to get out of the house with the kids)

While this was just the case I was still going to go so I didn't lose the money I already spent even if it ends up costing me another 1500.00 in the end for my boarding, food, cab fare, and my familys boarding, food, and entertainment.
BUT
this weekend the "check engine" light came on in my car. we just paid a couple thousand to fully fix our cars before making the 600 mile drive here when we moved and I have no idea how much more it's going to cost if there's an engine problem, and a possible medical problem arose for me. that I should get checked. I was going to wait until after the GTG so that I couldn't get any really bad news to make me sad or worried during the trip but I shouldn't put it off if I don't have to.

I don't know. I'm going crazy trying to decide. It comes down to:
Is it smarter to spend more money we dont really have to be able to use the money I've already spent on the flight and get to go? or Is it smarter to count that money as a loss and just stay home because the future probably holds some big expenses for us?

What do you guys think? I really need an objective opinion.

Crystal

I'm assuming there MUST be some sort of bus or public tranportation that can get you to the airport without having to uproot your family? Might not be an easy route to take but it has to exist. I'm sure you can make it happen, if you don't let the negatives get the better grip of the situation.

As for the tight money...it's not easy to tell you the right thing but I'll bet that you'll be able to get more money at some point in life where this expense will not even amount to a minor speed bump. Whereas this could be a rare once in a lifetime opportunity and the perfect setting for that "me time" that you gots have, every once and again.

Cheers!!!!

Oh....and when you're broke and starving, you'll still have all those fun, great memories form you're trip to Germany to keep you going.

Crystal, I think you should come. Yeah, there are a lot of reasons why you shouldn't, but I think you should come anyway. As you said, the money is already spent, and as Steve points out, there will be more money down the road. The experience you'll get may enable you to get some of that more money through your work, too. And for purely selfish reasons, I think you should come because I really want to meet you!

P.S. Would it be cheaper overall for you to fly to Atlanta instead of boarding everyone there while you're gone? And you're more than welcome to stay in my room with me gratis. I have no idea if I snore. :-)

Hi Crystal, Have you tried talking to your travel agent.
My mother flys form New Zealand to Germany pretty regularly, and always buys the cheapest unchangeable flights, and somehow always manages to change them without extra charges. Maybe there is an upgrade policy to upgrade your current ticket to a ticket you can change that won't cost you an arm and a family. If you booked online, then call the airline direct. You still have nearly 2 weeks to sort that out.

I know what you mean with money issues, I have just had a sequence of huge unexpected bills, but my problems don't sound nearly as bad as yours.

Good luck with the decision, and especially good luck with the health issue.

I look forward to meeting you.

Peter

Yeah I tried all that. I was given a 25.00 credit for my trouble and the fact that it wasn't relayed to me before purchasing that it was unchangeable, that's it. nothing else can be done or changed(or so they say). I guess it's unanimous that I should try to make this work so I think that's what I plan on doing unless things get worse.

Since jaded and I are gonna shack up (no comments from the peanut gallery!), that means I have a reservation for Friday and Saturday night that someone else can use. Just post here.
