Can someone please tell me what grace can mean? I do have dictionary so I know the definition, but this topic seems so open for interpretation.

For example, are trees graceful? Or can only living things be graceful. Does it suggest movement? I am having hard time figuring this out.

Short of shooting swans (which by luck are not available for photoshoot right now...) I am kind of stuck. Can someone unstuck me, please?

I'm having the same problem, if anyone has any examples I'd love to hear them :)

And 1 thing... since when were trees not living things :P

My daughter took a stab at this one, I went blank. I told her about the open challenge and she said to her grace means peace, pitched her idea and I handed over the camera once again. It's NOT a drawing this time! :)

It is very open to interpretation

a piece of furniture, a sculpture, a tree in the wind, flow of a river, a garden, a pond in that garden are all things which can be graceful (full of grace), dancers, runners, track and other sports can be
it's also seen as an 'undeserved' gift or seen as grace under pressure, grace in dealing with a terminal illness....covers a lot of territory
I think for inanimate objects it is grace in flow, shape, motion
hope that gets some ideas going

Grace is both fluidity of movement or form, and forgiveness.

unmeritted favor
thankfulness
also some ways to interpret grace, this topic is sort of like irony, very hard to capture in a photo IMO.

thank you guys, this helps a lot. I just want to prevent myself from submitting a photo, spent lot of time on, and then reading gazzilion comments of this type "doesn't fit the challenge"...

I take long time to photograph my ideas, only to get - "its a fad" commnets that are really dissapointing...

I would love to spread my wings and really explore crativity, but the general audience here so very strict that it is very hard sometimes to fit in my views of art.

With the current challenge "light" I did something creative this time (no weird effects) only to see the score start dropping very fast. I got some very positive comments from people that really like it, but the people that really didn't like it don't say so and just score it low.

Konador, I am sorry, I didn't mean that trees are not living things, I was more trying to see if people are more graceful than all else.

Believe me, I sometimes prefer surround myself with trees than with people. Trees don't judge you the way people do...

sorry, I meant the "shadows 2" challenge not the 'light' challenge...

Grace,hmmm,sounds so Greek to me!

I think means cat snapshot,or macro shot of an insect on flower, but whatever you submit it will get "doesn't meet the challenge" comments as in my shadow shot, you can't see the subject because of the shadow over it and I got the comments"I don't see shadow here!".

I suspect that this is going to be another challenging Challenge in respect of how the image has or is representative of "Grace".

I have just uploaded my entry - I believe it illustrates Grace but as always the "rightness" will be in the eye of the beholder. Therefore, like everyone else I will be clicking that update stats button to "see" how I am doing.

As with my previous Challenge Entries I hope I have given other users of this site an image that will please and reward the effort of taking the time to look at it.

TIA

Grace can mean a "graceful moavement", it can also mean a religious interpretation such as in the "grace of God", so therefore you can shoot anything which moves gracefully, or a religious view such as a church, a religious object or text, its a two sided interpretation. IMO

I certainly think grace is in the eye of the beholder. Unless the photo is waaaaaay off track, like maybe a dead chicken.. or a garbage dumpster, I am going to assume it represents grace to the photographer. Of course the chicken's name could have been Grace.. hmm and then we must consider "there but for the Grace of God, go I" which would cover even the least graceful subjects.

OK decision made. No matter what, I'm going to accept the photo as representing grace to the photographer.

Yeh I'll have to agree with that. There's a few pics I've seen that have made me wonder where the grace is, but in the end it is the individual's interpretation of the word that matters. I tend to look at the image and see if it is very graceful as a whole, but that's still not easy to define! I know mine isn't so good looking back on it, but there you go.

I'm voting the same way. I just have to assume the photographer has a different version of grace than I do and vote the image on it's technical merits (and how it makes me feel of course).
