Just wondering what the consensus is on this subject for the "Brown" Challenge. I would think that Beige would be considered light brown but what do you think?
12/15/2006 09:08:44 PM · #2
I would say it is light brown. I reckon the Brown challenge will have many different shades of brown.

I totally agree, as all shade of brown are brown, IMO.....

Thanks for your opinions. I was thinking I was going to have to take another "dirt" shot!

in my experience with voters, brown should be brown,
or be prepared for silly comments

I would think that there will be many different shades of brown. Beige would fall into that catagory.

The fact that you are posting in this thread suggests to me you may be entering this challenge. If that's the case I best enter Pink Floyd instead. :P

All shades of brown aren't brown. If they were then everything would be brown. There would be no need for colors like beige. They are just what you said they are, shades of another color. Challenge asked for brown, not beige or a shade of brown. It's not that complicated.

Just curious, which square qualifies as brown?

That is kind of like asking if pink is red.

But by that logic there is no brown since it's just a combination of the three primary colors.

None of them? The darkest one comes the closest, but at least on my monitor they are too greenish/yellowish. Don't know if I would consider them DNMC or not. Dirt is brown, most tree trunks are brown, a brown crayon is brown as are brown eyes (but not hazel eyes--they are hazel).

Any of these strike you as brown?

just to clarify the rules of the "brown" challenge, is it alright if ill do it in the processing? like sepia or doutone for example.

I believe so and I can imagine there will be a few entries that will be done that way. I fully expect to see a veritable deluge of sepia. (Almost makes you think we might want a sepia or duotone challenge)

Myself, I am not going to be picky about the color. If its brownish its fine. If the main subject is a red door. Nope. If the door is reddish brown. No biggie. I think the best entries are going to contain all sorts of variations on brown and its kin.

Enywho.

That's been done in every other color challenge before. I'm sure some will not like it but there aren't enough of those as some have ribboned using that technique.
