Crop it and straighten it and yes take away the thick bordwr and you have a great image Sheryll.....

I was trying to fix my attempt at hdr, thats what started my insanity lol

I think you should don't straighten it. Even incline it a litle more. Inclined a litle and with the borders ir makes the composition stylish and stand out from thousands of other front of trains/cars photo.
I don't understanfd the common prejudice against borders around here ;) |

Based on the last 4 comments in this thread you've successfully edited your photograph. 2 people like it the first way, 2 people like the edit. Congratulations, you now have scores of 3,4,7, and 8 = avg of 5.5. :D
Oops. I haven't voted yet. I like the image on initial viewing for subject matter and general composition. However, it's pixelating in the sky, jaggies galore going on, and it seems to be oversharpened. 5 from me. That now brings your avg to 5.4
BTW, the color version is the stronger of the 2 (not pixelated, and sharpening is ok, still have jaggies) - 6 for that one. Curious? You'd be at 5.6 now instead. :D

I stand somewhere in the middle of the previous posters as far as that border. I like borders, but I think the original border was a bit much. It almost seems like the numbers and words are easier to read on the original, but more blurred on the edits, which I think would help the edit. But overall, I do like the coloring and tones of the edits better than the original.
You'll have to ask glad2badad what that brings your average to now. :P

I like borders also. Borders do serve a specific purpose though. A border should separate the art from the background environment (wall or computer screen) but it should NOT become a point of attention in the image. It should not draw the viewer's eye at all. It should help the viewer to focus on the image itself.
Just my opinion...

...and a good one too! Another problem with borders is the amount of space that we have to present our photo on screen. It's not much, and the larger the border the more the photo gets compressed and detail lost. Some borders reduce photos down to a large thumbnail. |

I agree with the thought being expressed here on scaling back borders, but I have found that once in a while I need to add a border just because of file size, or have increased a border by 5-10 pixels all the way around to keep details and stay within the 150k limit. Simpler images without a lot of detail aren't usually a problem, but toss in a photo with some texture (grass, leaves, tree branches, water ripples, etc...) and it gets tricky sometimes. |

| IMO, I like the tilt as well, I might even tilt it a little more. I don't really like the border though,just a little too thick. |

Maybe instead of the border, how about encircling it with a faint vignette? That would give it a nostalgic look-and-feel. (just a thought)

| I personnaly liked your border (for style) and the slanted picture. It gave a sense of movement... action. When it is straight, the train look immobile. My opinion surely won't give you a high rated DPC photo, but on your wall it will look great. IMO, your friends and family will tend to "think out of the box" more than the people here. |

I like the tilt, gives a feeling of it rumbling towards you. Don't know how many people have been on the tracks as a train is coming, but sometimes seems like it might roll right off the tracks.
I also like the border.
To me, without the tilt and border it looks like a million of other train shots.

Can't do anything about the artifacting from that small jpg; from the original, it wouldn't be a problem.
