A while ago I was commenting on the 50,000 or so accounts at DPC. How many of them are inactive and who knows what they may harbor. Trolls, vote modifiers, etc, all the typical anal-retentive, negative thoughts that occasionally escape my output filter. ;) This account came to my attention this week, and I suspect your attention also. jtlee321
This dynamic duo of images brought that account to my attention.

Can we get Langdon and Drew to shake a stick at the huge number of inactive accounts and get some more of this to drop out?

A lot of those inactive DPC accounts are for people that open an account at DPC prints.

When you sign up at DPC prints a DPChallenge account is automatically created. Most of those people have no intention of participating in the DPChallenge site.

Maybe what is needed is an indicator to show that the DPCHallenge account was an offshoot of the DPCPrints account creation. Then if those people want to participate in DPChallenge they have to activate the DPC account.

Um... I'm not sure what the issue is here. He could just be a darn good photographer that watched from the sidelines for a while before submitting. Arpita did the same thing.

I'm not sure what you mean. This account you are referring to was made in 04, but he has 2 recent entries in challenges. HOw can you say this is an inactive account? I'm not sure exactly what your trying to bring to everyones attention? And does it really matter to you if the accounts are inactive? What harm do they do. Maybe someone lost interest in the site or got busy with life, and at some point hope to return to the site.

Oh, never be sorry. It ruins the experience. I was just trying to point out very good things hide in those inactive accounts.
And I wish D&L would email them once a year (shake a stick) and maybe the owners would participate. I figured the shifted characters would draw attention. *&%*^(&)(&*(&^(*&^^**O!!!
They sure did. I don't think most respondents read anything after the post title. :) :) :) And I did use smilies. :) Well, maybe my translation will help sooth the savage forum beast.
If not, I'm ready for ritual combat.

You weren't using proper forum etiquette. You need four smilies, not three... with at least one of them winking, and another sticking the tongue out. After that you need to place a ROFLMAO or at the very least a LOL, usually followed by some kind of escape action, something like: "<ducks for cover>". Cute little animated gifs are an optional accessory that may strengthen your point as well. Feel free to copy and paste next time: :-) Lol ;-) ROFLMAO :-P <runs and hides> :-)

I could see maybe cutting nonpaying accounts if there have been no entries in two or more years. But cut a paying member? Sacrilege!

I think that having a section separated by itself to show people who have not participated in a year might be in order. Not necessarily removing them, but possibly having two sections, active members with a total, and non-active members with a total. Then an overall total of the two together. When I see 50,000 plus members, I think that is a lot of votes, but the challenges don't seem to reflect that. Just a suggestion.

Oh, please don't.. my Mom keeps a free account here, never posts, never votes, and never enters. All she wants to do is log in every once in awhile to keep tabs on how I'm doing over here. I'm sure there are others like that.

I understood the intent of the original post, though yeah, it was badly worded. Basically a good natured, "If all these inactive people come out of retirement and start kick out butts at the ribbon game, maybe we should strike at them preemptively, haha."

Back to jtlee321. Do you realize that after two challenges he has a current average of 7.47 two ribbons and nearly 60 favs!!! Patience my friends is a virtue. :)

If I sit out and just watch for a couple of years will it make me a better photographer?
