Hip-hip-hooray!

The quiz is good fun, but it's becoming a bit of a fastest finger game, not a true test of our trivia brains. It is possible for it to be set up with different subjects eg Monday - Geography, Tuesday - Science, Wednesday - Movies etc. How do other quiz players feel about injecting a bit more excitement into the game? :)

Hey is anyone else getting this message when trying to get into the trivia game? I've tried it on both of my puters. Was in earlier in the day and it was fine.

Error Occurred While Processing Request
Error Executing Database Query.
Communication failure during handshake. Is there a server running on 10.5.226.4:3306?

Please try the following:
Enable Robust Exception Information to provide greater detail about the source of errors. In the Administrator, click Debugging & Logging > Debugging Settings, and select the Robust Exception Information option.
Check the ColdFusion documentation to verify that you are using the correct syntax.
Search the Knowledge Base to find a solution to your problem.

That's a good idea - just don't include sports on any of the days. ;-Þ

Yes, cosprenks, I'm getting the same error.

Marigold, I'm up for whatever you want to do. :)

It's switched to "server error 404" now, so someone's working on it.

I too am getting a bit depressed with the super-high-speed roulette aspect of the game. I wish we'd raise the difficulty level, and keep out sports and popular music questions; both of those seem slanted towards specific groups. "Course I am prejudiced 'cuz I can't hear and so don't know music, but I *do* know sports, and still think they are unfair to many.

Does anyone know how Karen does it so fast? I am screaming fast if I reach mid-40's. One suspects she may be a witch or something, supernatural powers, I don't know...

I had the pleasure of eating lunch with Karen when she was in town last month. I can tell you she most assuredly doesn't look like a witch. ;)

Having reached Karen-like speeds a couple of times recently, it's a matter of very quickly scanning for keywords, not reading the whole question.

For example, if the question were:

DPC has many outstanding photographers. Many of them have earned more than 10 ribbons. Their styles vary quite a bit, including landscapes, wildlife, still life, and skiffs. Which of the following is one of DPC's most ribboned members?

The point would be to see the following:
DPC
10 ribbons

and then look for someone whose name you recognize as winning a lot.

Sometimes the incorrect answers are just goofy. I got one yesterday about the leader of WWII Germany. The answers were something like:
Adolf Hitler
Herman Hitler
Jerry Hitler
Francois Hitler

Didn't even need to read the question.

Finally, there's the wild guess strategy. If you really don't know, click something immediately and move on instead of wracking your brain. If you're right, you get credit at a faster speed.

I'm a good speed reader (read 7 books and half a dozen magazines weekly on average) and I do that stuff, but the hands can't keep up. It takes a certain amount of time to move and click. I have some arthritis that probably slows me down, though.

Anyway, I guess I'm saying I'd prefer tougher quizzes that make you think. Gawd knows the site HAS them...

Bear, are you using a mouse with a wheel? Flicking that is MUCH faster than scrolling over on the side.

I agree, though - I'd like it to be more about correct answers than speed.

That is, I freely concede the speed demon title to Karen. :)

Thanks for the support Jeffery. :)

I do use a mouse with a wheel, and I do scan for key words. I don't always get them all right as you all know, sports questions usually stump me but like you said, don't sit there trying to figure it out, click on any answer and move on.

Yeah I have a wheel mouse, couldn't live without it.

The site's not coming up for me. Anyone have the same problem? (Error Executing Database Query) Communication failure during handshake.

Not working for me either :(

What happened today??????? I scored my fastest time ever, 33 seconds, and then it got wiped (along with the other two or three players' scores.) grrrrrrr

eta: So I did today's quiz again, zoomed through it in abut 30 seconds, and my time gets recorded 15813 seconds. So unfair!

Sorry to hear that happened to you. That really sucks because I am sure I will not ever see 33 secs. But it's good news for me since my low score got wiped out. lol

Is it letting you try again?

I guess if you do it again, you'll have several thousand seconds too.

Bumping for the newer DPCers, so more folks will participate!

You can play once a day, it only takes a minute. Your score is partially based on how quickly you finish the quiz, so don't take your time!

DPC Daily Trivia Game

Have fun :)
