microwave to heat drinks, food, and some mothers to heat a baby's milk... I received this in the mail this morning, and while I don't know how true it is, I think it's worth sharing just for the sake of pondering:

someone made a simple experiment, and the result after 9 days:

I might take it as valuable evidence if there were samples of 100 plants or so.

Even 10 or 20 for a personal experiment.

LOL I know what you mean. But I'm too lazy to prove this for myself :p
Maybe someone out there have enough free-time to do it. But for pondering, will microwaving water break the structure of the water elements?

The only definitive thing I have ever heard about microwaving is that you should never use a plastic container. Microwaves cause the chemicals to leech into your food. Always reheat with ceramic.

after 30 years of Microwaving in plastic...NOW you tell us!

OMG I do that very frequently with the instant food I bought from the supermarket...

But is the microwaved water purified first, or just random water they took out of the toilet or something?

What about metal? That's always been pretty definitive in my house :)

Heh... yeah... well, as I understand it, the results of those studies are only just starting to come out. A girl I grew up with is a researcher on that particular project, and it's not looking too good for nuking in plastic.

new mothers are told not to microwave formula. i think i remember it was because of uneven heating but maybe not.

Even if 100 plants would shrivel up from microwaved water, there is still a difference between plants and babies/humans.

Perhaps the plants actually miss a bunch of little bugs that the microwaving killed, but the human bodies are quite happy to not have to deal with them all.

Also: the water was probably all they got during that time. We, however, get our nourishment from lots of sources, so we wouldn't miss a few juicy bacteria from that water in the same way.

Metal sort of reflects the microwave, won't it?
That's the one thing I dont put in a microwave for fear of explosion, lol

Also a good question. I don't see enough evidence of a control structure to make this expirement very convincing.

I have a student who found that out the hard way. I remember when MW were the "new thang" so we were "taught" and very cautious. He had never been told . . .

Well did they let the water cool down before pouring it in?

not to mention was the water measured before or after being microwaved? there could be significant loss of water once all days are added up.

quite true, but I was more worried if microwaved water actually has atomic structure break-downs or something... hmm

yea. it causes "hot spots" but if you shake it good after you get it out, it all distributes and it's good. not best practice, I understand, but if it's 3am and someone is hungry -- it works.

I have a story about that...

When I first graduated from college and moved out on my own, my Mom gave me a set of dishes she never used. They were good ceramic or porcelain dishes, not sure which, but they had gold rims. The first time I unthinkingly stuck one of those in the microwave, it was like sparklers on the 4th of July. Never happened again.

Well, that would turn it into something other than water, right? And it still comes out of the microwave was water, so I'd say it's not affecting the atomic structure at all.

Maybe I'm being way too literal here, but... was the water really hot straight out of the microwave when they poured it on the plant? That might explain it!

wow.. another vote for purified water! amazing.. I am going to forward this to my department head (City of Austin - Watershed Protection Development Review, Grow Green)..

LOL, I think this is exactly it with someone with an axe to grind.

Water is water is water. Nuking it isn't going to change it except for the temperature...
