I've been there too, even ranted and raised hell about it.
Sometimes things can be so subjective and frustrating, and in the end, I was left with only a headache.
Words of advise from someone who has been in your shoes:
Just play.
Don't throw mud.
And smile.
It's more fun that way.

For what it's worth, Shannon, your entry was one of my 3 10s in the challenge.

This explains the unusually low scores in this challenge. People still do not seem to "get it". Bokeh is the quality of the out-of-focus areas of an image. Nothing more, nothing less. And, yes, that does include shallow depth of field.

My entry:

My entry did not do better because it failed to meet the challenge, but rather because it was not as good a photograph as those that placed ahead of it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Such as they are... my outtakes are here:

Quite amazing that such confussion remains concerning such a simple concept.

At any rate, I had a difficult time deciding which edit to enter.

I'm happy with where my shot finished, but I still think that one of these two other edits may have done better.

What an amazing transformation!

I like the entered photo more. Wondering how the shot looked in color did cross my mind when viewing it. The silvery tone makes it extra special. Makes the leaf and the background work nicely together, which it doesn't in the color version, just not as well. Also the branches are less of a distracting but a very feature in the toned one.

Here's one of my outtakes:
