Post a link to your favourite photographer and explain why you like him/her.

Min has just got to be Don McCullin, a british war photographer. His images are nicely contrasted (on the high side) even when shooting landscapes and nature which I like (although he would get ripped by the DPC'ers). He also has a nice biog on how he got into photography in the first place.

for some of his work see: //www.vam.ac.uk/vastatic/microsites/photography/photographerframe.php?photographerid=ph041

can i say, myself? coz eventho I cant shoot well and doesn't do quality contents or photos, I like the photos that I've taken, simply because they carry some meaning to me, some more some less. :)

OK, jokes aside, I think my law-er is my fav photographer (number 2 position, coz myself is the 1st position! hahaha!) because he reminds me of Ron Weasley.

sorry for a not-so-serious reply. I havent bath yet.

Man Ray > //www.designautopsy.com/blowup/portfolios/n-r/Ray/index.asp?link_id=26

I have a breath for his images, because his affections extend to latent realities and aspects of those as opposed to a representation of worlds, sometimes found during a photographic process never done before.

The particular sensuality inherent in many of his portraits, IMO, has a radiant quality, while the treatment and manner of rendering demonstrates a 'dry' and objective stance toward the creative process and, occasionally, an 'incidental' result.

Also, I easily get bored. Man Ray seems to have had a patch for this. ;-)

This is hard...... there are so many I can't pick one, so I'll start with a genre.

Dorothea Lange //www.sfmuseum.org/hist/lange.html
Her social repsonsibility and the way she portayed it.

Man Ray is a favourite, as is Warhol

I like Man Ray but struggle to find much interesting with Warhol. Went to a recent exhibition of his work and couldn't get in to it all - what do you find appealing in his photography ?

Mine has to be Yann Arthus-Bertrand.
Second choice is Ami Vitale.

I love inspirational photography that shows us more about the diverse world we live in.

Gordon

Was that the exhibit they had recently in Austin?

We were down there visiting our son and his girl friend wanted to go see the Warhol exhibit and we could not get her out of there!

I like some of his work, but not that I would hang any of it on my wall :(

I have always had problems defining a 'favorite' photographer. I really admire a lot of photographers, past and present, for their specific styles and subject attractions.

Since I have a deep love for railway photos, O. Winston Link is on the top of my list in that particular category. I plan to make a road trip to visit this museum as soon as it opens in January.

I find it easy to enjoy his photos because I share a subject interest with him.

It's not neccesarily his photo's as such, it is the post processing that attracts me.

Yes, it was at the AMOA. We are family members, so get to everything, good and bad :) The David Frank exhibit was good and there was a fantastic Keith Carter showing a few months back.

There are soooo many ... How about Yousuf Karsh for portraiture; //www.westongallery.com/artists/y_karsh/yousuf_karsh.html
Galen Rowell and Ansel Adams especially for their work in Yosemite. I have a special fondness for Ansel's "Winter Sunrise, Sierra Nevada from Lone Pine, California, 1944" and "Clearing Winter Storm, Yosemite National Park, 1944". //www.westongallery.com/artists/Ansel_Adams/ansel_adams.html and and //mountainlight.com/gallery.html. I'm sure I could go on ... Frantz Lanting, John Shaw, and many, many more.

I have a few favs my personal fav is a friend of mine who really isn't a photographer but is an artist and he came up with a way to shred photos and reassemble them and create a whole new person //www.riccomaresca.com/Artists/Photography/Monteith/Monteith.htm

But now if I had to pick a photographer it would be Scott Mutter. I love his works, they are so cool the way he makes the objects so large and people so small in comparision. It really shows just how small we all are in this world.
//www.giger-art.com/surreal/Scott-Mutter.html

And finally my favorite traditional style photographer would be Cindy Sherman. I just adore her untiled film stills. They are wonderfully dramatic and many are self portraits.

Gordon Parks is my favorite photographer. I think he has been a very versatile photographer capturing the many aspects of life throughout his long career.

Right now, Andre Kertesz is the person who's work I'm most awed by.

Unfortunately, a quick search doesn't reveal much of his truly great work on the net, which is a great shame. But there are some at that site... edit... image 18 is the only one of those I really think is great (couldn't link to the individual shots)...

As to why? If I could fully explain it maybe I could take photos like he could :-)

There are so many great photographers out there. It would be hard to pick and choose. I like a photographer who can display emotions in his/her shots.
