This is a question for the Canon eos-10d club. After hearing so much about this camera in the forums, I have suggested we get one where I work. We have about $3000 (and maybe could squeeze out a little more) in the budget for this purchase. What additional items would you suggest we get? I'm thinking additional batteries and a couple extra memory cards of course, but what lenses if we wanted awesome macro and telephoto capabilities?

A good all around lense is the EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. Some people say it's not sharp enough but I think it's a very good all purpose lense.

I would suggest:
Canon or Sigma are both good choices. Canon IS lenses are real nice but costly you can afford them. Sigma naturally costs less.
28-90mm F2.8 USM
105mm F2.8 1:1 macro
70-300mm USM
A 512mb or 1gb compact flash card will hold more than you will ever shoot in one day I would think.
2 batteries is a good idea. I have gone all day on one, but I have had to change them out if I forget to charge one.
A battery charger for the car would be a nice idea also.

for 3000$ and then some you should try to get an L lense ...
I hear EF 17-40mm f/4L USM is a real good all around lens.
then maybe a 75-300mm for the telephoto, they come in varios prices depending on the quality.
then there are of course special Macro lenses wich I know nothing about

OK good suggestion :) It will mostly be used by the coordinator of our weatherization department. He does a lot of before and after shots of homes being weatherized and needs close ups of wiring etc. Though a telephoto lens isn't mandatory for his job, there will be others in the agency using it for various jobs. We are a non-profit agency but the money comes from a grant designated for this purchase so the idea is to get the most we can get for the money.
Besides, he's promised to loan it to me on occasion and I WANT EVERYTHING!

| The 300D comes with a versatile lens. If/when you find you need another lens for other applications, worry about that then. |

I have the 10D and just picked up a Sigma 105mm EX macro lens. (I'll be posting some pics from that combo here soon...) Check out the reviews of the lens, as well as the camera itself, at dpreview.com. Both are awesome! ...Oh, if you do get the lens, the best price is at pickacamera.com, - great delivery, too.
The Sigma will give you fantastic 1:1 macros, with edge-to-edge sharpness. It also does quite well as a portrait lens.
As for storage, I have 512MB and 256MB CF cards (one each). I also bought a 40 GB X Drive II for portable storage. That gives me virtually limitless storage capabilities in the field or on the road...

Man.. you posted that photo like if it was something usual.. but IMHO that's a fantastic shot!
Very good example of the quality of the lens and the photographer.
