We have received a number of messages from members citing concerns about "team" voting among participants in the WPL side tournament. After a thorough investigation, we discovered that a small number of users were clearly revealing their entries to each other, and in some cases voting 9 and 10 across the board for their teammates. While the true effect of 3 or 4 votes of "10" on a single entry is minimal, such behavior will not be tolerated and th offending users have been dealt with.

The good news is that such violations were limited to a small percentage of participants in the WPL. The vast majority of WPL participants competed in the fair and honest manner we have come to expect from this community, and we'd like to thank them for maintaining a spirit of sportsmanship in the heat of competition. We hope this serves to reassure that we do and will continue to monitor voting in order to maintain a fair and level playing field and the integrity of the site.

We also would like to stress that this should not be seen as a black mark on the tournament concept itself. Although the WPL and other side tournaments are not officially sanctioned by DPChallenge, we believe that, on balance, they have been a positive contribution to DPChallenge, enhancing for many the spirit of friendly competition and community we have come to enjoy over the past 5 years. With that in mind, we will continue to provide whatever support we reasonably can for these competitions, while also providing the necessary oversight to ensure that all participants compete in a fair and sportsmanlike manner. Let's continue to work together to keep the competitions fun and fair for everyone.

Currently 35 challenges are being recalculated. The recalculation will not affect any ribbons, but will shift some placements. 131 votes in total were removed.

This is great news. Hopefully it will stop some of the bashing treads we have seen lately.

CHEATERS!!!!

And just for a "virtual" ribbon?

Adults they think they are, but children sneaking around mothers apron is what they truly are.

CHEATERS ALL!!!!!!

I need a drink now........maybe later too.

One of the threads called us ALL gang members and said there was wide-spread corruption.... that was not legit, even close. Read Langdon's post again "the vast majority..."

Excuse me?

Why don't you read what I actually wrote and get off your high horse telling me to re-read the post?

I VERY clearly wrote "there was SOME legitamecy to SOME of those threads..."

Some, but not much. The number of offenders was very small. The worst cases might have amounted to a handful of people voting 9 or 10 instead of 6 or 7 (which really has little impact), and claims of teams voting others down were unfounded.

You probably meant "legitimacy", and not being an English speaking person I had to look it up.

I stand by what I said. I’m honest and I believe that 99.9% of the peoples here also are.

Yes, but the fact remains that there was a very public thread that accused all WPL team members of skewing the vote not just some. It was moved to rant, and many people were pretty upset, even though we tried to laugh it off. So the ire this question raises is not necessarily brokered specifically your direction, so lets all chill, all right?

This, for the most part, proves that our community is MOSTLY honest. The few bad apples shouldn't be allowed to spoil the party all the time, right?

Please forgive me, but what is WPL?

It's great that these things are caught but I don't see this as a "WPL" issue and perhaps it shouldn't be implied as such, which is only going to fan the flames even more against the league. If they were cheating in the league there's no reason to think they weren't doing it before the WPL started. I'm guessing all the WPL did in this case was help find the offenders or help support the case.

Everyone you see with a team name on their sig is on a team for the WPL, we use our challenge scores here on a team basis for a side competition.

Its an inner-DPC "World Photograpphy Leage". We join in teams of 7 and pit our collective challenge scores against each other in an imaginary sports season. Its all for fun.

"World Photography League." It's simply groups of individuals "competing" against each other with the average of their weekly DPC scores.

Agree,,,,well said.

Hitting Idnic pretty hard there don't you think... :)
I too read what you wrote and it was pretty obvious to me that you were making a point that was already made.
Time to chill my man. Aiming at the wrong target.

Please, please keep this thread civil. There no room for insinuating remarks or outright accusations. The situation has been handled, and as previously stated, future activity will be monitored.

Also, the recalculation script is complete.

Thank you again, Langdon.

Wow....I can't believe after the idiocy of late towards ghosting and stuff that anyone would be so stupid to do something like this.

All I can say is....I am pleased it has been caught.

Please peoples...if you are going to get involved in any form of side challenges then please refrain from crossing the obvious line of voting. It is okay to show someone your entry with PRIOR permission....but make it quite clear beforehand that you will NOT vote on that entry. Even if you voted honestly...one can never be sure if your vote was a deliberate attempt to alter the course of the overall voting or not.

What is also UNACCEPTABLE is to show your images in a chat room to other members and state that these are for a challenge and not warn anyone prior to this behaviour. And certainly with no warning to avoiding your vote on such images.
