I was disappointed with this one- coming in about 250th place (19th percentile). Only two comments- one said nice composition one said "too dark". Lighting was definately a major feature of the photo. Not colorful enough for DPC? I am hoping for some more comments. I did not expect top ten, but certainly do not think it was in the bottom 20%.

Left one for you. Dont be disappointed. Just take a look at some of the excellent photogs on the site and you will see similar patterns in their submissions.

Thank you to those who left comments. The ones left during the challenge were not that helpful in trying to figure out why people did not respond to it in the way I hoped they would. You helped give me a little better idea.

My two sense … first impression was that it looks like a snapshot. Here’s a couple reasons why:

1) lighting is very “yellow” .. and is usually not as appealing if it were more white
2) composition draws your eye toward the dark part of the wall
3) although the image is fairly clean there are a number of areas that I find distracting (kitchen in the background, shadow of the chair on the left hand side)
4) the cat is looking towards the dark wall on the right of the shot, again leading your eye toward the right
5) Focus is a little off (cat seems a wee bit blurry)

hope that helps a bit

Some of my thoughts, and some obviously disagree which is fine and to be expected on any photo, I will agree that the cat is a bit blury. I think she moved during the exposure. I felt that the color of the light and the darkness helped to imply that this is night. White light balance would not have shown that. Maybe a little lighter could have helped. The cat is looking through a door, not at a wall so we may be wondering what it is looking at. If the cat was looking at us, it would be more of a snapshot. The dark area on the right, may or may not work. I was using that for the rule of thirds and the darkness added to the mystery as far as I was concerned. Again, maybe a little lighter may have helped. Thank you again to those who commented. Some things to consider for next time.

It also looks like a snap shot to me. Half of the image frame is taken up by a dark wall (right side) and it's just not interesting IMHO. I know it has meaning to you and that's all that matters really.

Perhaps marking those comments you found helpful would be a show of thanks to those who took the time to comment (just a friendly suggestion :) )
